    Won't go into 4-low

Well still no luck. Looks like I need to pull it and check it out. Any tips on pulling the transfer case. It will be a first for me.

    Won't go into 4-low

I tried the rolling and with the hubs locked, no dice. I am going to try to get a better look at the linkage in the daylight.

    Brake pull--wheel cylinder leak?

Try bleeding and adjusting first. When I got mine they were radically out of adjustment. Then check for fluid loss. Mine had fluid all over I guess from the PO trying to bleed out the problem.

    Won't go into 4-low

well still can't get it to work. My guess is the shift fork being misplaced. It feels like something just won't let it go all the way into gear. It is close like hearing a very faint grind like it is trying but cant. Also, is it normal to be able to shift out of 2hi sideways into neutral? Maybe...

    40 vs 80

There is no real answer. I use both for a DD and towing Jet Skis. Just depends if the baby is riding along, if so I take the 80. Get both or you will never be satisfied.

    40 vs 80

Use the, it fits 7 people and its good for camping excuse. and get the 80 and keep the 40. 80's are nice but the 40 is still more fun to drive.

Thanks. I am going to check it out and report back.

    Won't go into 4-low

It looks like it is all connected just something is jamming it up. It doesn't want to go into low. I am assuming it should be pretty easy to get into low. I can easily move it into high and neutral by hand.

    Won't go into 4-low

I have a 72 fj40 with 3 speed x-fer case. My problem is I can't get it into 4-lo. It goes into 2-hi and 4-hi fine but it seems to have a lot of slop in linkage. I tried getting it into 4-lo by hand from the under side but all it wants to do is stay in Neutral. With a built 350 I haven't HAD to...

Transfer case to drive shaft, part missing?

Well I took it apart and mine has a castle nut with a cotter pin. The PO didn't put a cotter pin in there so the nut worked its way off. Luckily it was all still there and the threads were fine so I tightened it back up and put in a cotter pin. Good so far. All of the e-brake parts are gone...

    how much for sbc conversion

My 72 has the SOR conversion which moves everything foward and allows you to just switch the front and rear drive shafts which saves a little $$. But you need to cut the floor to move the shifters foward and make a metal plate to cover the hole. It still has the 3 speed trans and TC with their...

Transfer case to drive shaft, part missing?

Yeah, It's all missing. I might try one of those hydraulic brake locks like dune buggys use. Looking at the part #'s on SOR it says 13 is a cotter pin on early models. I am going to take it apart and check it out. It's always fun on old cars to figure out what the PO's did during it's life. I...

Transfer case to drive shaft, part missing?

oh ok. I figured it out. Thanks for the pic. This is my first 40 so I am slowly figuring out what it is supposed to look like compared to how the PO put it together.

Transfer case to drive shaft, part missing?

I have been looking at this diagram http://www.sor.com/sor/cat068.tam?xax=15329&page%2Ectx=cat068%2Etam but still can't figure out what is wrong.

Transfer case to drive shaft, part missing?

Yeah it is the parking brake drum but no brake components inside. The picture is where the shaft goes into the transfer case. I bet the oil is low. It leaks from here which is why I think something is missing. Is the seal you are talking about missing?

Transfer case to drive shaft, part missing?

I recently picked up a 72 40 with a 350 chev. When I was looking at the transfercase where the drive shaft goes in it looks like something is missing there. You can slide the splines in and out of the transfercase by hand. I am thinking there must be something that is supposed to hold it still.
