Now that I've read this thread, I'll comment on front seats in the Pig.
A rear-end collision of 25 mph or so WILL tend to bend the bench seat frame. I imagine it wouldn't be too big a deal to reinforce things to limit or eliminate this issue.
If you choose the stock bench, getting headrests on...
Thanks for the ref and a great flashback Sunday afternoon re-read. I'll have to read this thread first before I comment on whatever issues that are under discussion about the 55 seats. I will note the neck is still a pain on many days, but got other aches nowadays that are sometimes enough to...
Can't be any worse than pushing that ever-so-handy-but-so-often-disappointing dash control and getting nothing, then having to unload through the side doors to get to the problem. I actually didn't make it through my first 24 hours off the dealer's lot before I had to return for assistance --...
Heck, that manual crank rear window sounds like a great feature, too. And maybe a lot more doable, presuming parts could be scared up. I often wished mine was manual crank.
TJ,
Please do! Just catching up and came across this amazing thread. Yeah, it'll be a great help for others. Being Pigless, it brought back a wave of nostalgic memories accentuated by the green. A really beautiful machine that works beautifully, neither of which is easy with a Pig. Congrats and...
Neil or one of his bandmates could've chosen to drive any vehicle they wanted. Someone chose a FJ-55, which is saying a lot. My '76 was just a couple of years younger than that one and only slightly more luxurious, in that I think the AC wasn't quite as slick as in my truck. Other than that...
OK, this may end up being just chat, but just was picking my way through the book that comes with the newly released Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young - 1974 box set. A black & white pic on page 27 shows a tasty line-up of very nice guitars set up for rehearsals by the group at Neil Young's Broken...
YMMV. I'm just a little taller than scrapdaddy, but I can still remember how my right hip would hurt after a 1,000 miles of "right leg cruise control" going to Colorado on that bench seat. It wouldn't have been half so bad if I could've extended my leg another 2".
You may be right.:p
I was speaking in more like the under 5-year timeframe. If a piggy in CO is still rusting away, at least it's not already making sure the local fields are iron rich, like I suspect my old midwest piggy went to several decades back.
Then again, maybe it got parked in a barn...
It may sound like it's a small number, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's accurate. It wasn't exactly like Mr. T was marketing the 55. You had to know you wanted one then go look for it.
The dealer I went to when I bought my '76 didn't have one on the lot. He did locate one in Indianapolis --...
In addition to the drainage, the way the reinforcement sits acts to facilitate condensation. Any water in the bottom has a nice long rise and temp gradient over the rise to cause it to both vaporize then condense over the course of daily temp changes.
I can tell you that even when new, they...
I suspect your tank is not as big as the Man-a-free tank (55 gallons) for the same spot. That's because the Man-a-fre tank hung down below the frame some. It had a canted bottom at the rear to help with the departure angle. On the other hand, yours does tick up neatly outta the way, which is a...
