Builds Maytag. 1967 LPB, a daily driven survivor

I ran a '77 front disk FJ40 axle (non-power boosted) on my '65 FJ45 - worked great. I used a 1988 power brake master cylinder (from a junkyard v6 Toyota pickup - 4 cyl would likely work) bolted directly to the firewall without a booster. No adapters. I carefully adjusted the pushrod length for...

    Builds Goat. A 1967 survivor FJ-45 LWB

Don't wipe off the excess - it will collect dust and form a nice greasy film that will protect. You need film thickness to prevent rust.

    45 bed floor

I have a Pacol FJ40 fender in my garage - and went through the multi-month nonsense and 2 sets of fenders until I found one that sorta fit. My spare is a fender I was too chicken to try to fit - once you cut off the OEM fender, you're sorta committed. I get the feeling the boys in Columbia...

Air intake - keeping the engine temp down - Trial

I may put a remote-reading thermometer in my air intake and play around with this idea - thanks for showing your experiment and the results.

anyone heard from Mike Speer? He made the old repro hubcaps.

I thought I saw SOR selling repro caps (perhaps his) - maybe they can provide contact info?

    Pops 45

I bought an engine-less '65 FJ45 and installed '77 FJ40 axles, '83 2F engine, '78 4speed, and '80 xfer case. I used a vacuum shifter from a '65 and it bolted right up to the 1980 4-speed-era xfer case. I totally preserved all the '65 shifter bits - lever on the dash and vacuum shift with green...

Insane heat in cab above exhaust

I used Reflectix (foil faced bubble wrap) under the trans tunnel cover. It worked much better than the times I have installed it on top of the trans tunnel cover. The difference was huge. It's far easier to install it on top of the floorpan, so you might just do that. Stuff like Dynamat really...

    Hardtop gasket

I just fitted the CCoT aftermarket gasket to my stock FJ40, and it's a lot of work to trim, glue, drill holes, etc. but it worked well. $68 beats $300 or so. You would need two of these, and they are thinner than OEM, so you'd have to not mix-and-match.

    A Troopy in the U.P.

FWIW - just returned from a Yooper vacation and there was a very clean (still had Calif plates) '69ish FJ40 parked in Copper Harbor (looks like the truck hasn't moved much) and a early green FJ40 in Eagle River, both in the Keweenau. Nice to see more FJs in the UP. Just rustproof the heck out of...

best spots to rust proof on a 45 ute?

Surely the removable top and the rear cab corners would be high on the list. I use grease and oil for rustproofing, and don't apply anything before painting. If you use a pump-oiler, and shoot 90wt gear oil into all the cracks and crevices (basically any welded seam) after painting, you'll have...

    fj45 lwb/swb bench seat tech...

I know the 70s era seats are quite different (like 1978) - but the '65ish ones should be the same for several years. SOR's listing should show the years their covers fit. I used their OEM-type covers (gray) on my '65 and they fit very well - no complaints at all.

    Wheel Ponderings

Depending on the shape of the wheel, you can drill out and reattach the hubcap clips to a newer or different wheel. I added a set of hubcap clips to a set of solid axle minitruck rims. you have to drill precisely and rivet the clips on, and then tack-weld the clips to the rims. It's a fair...

    fj45

What's with the old FJ40 liftgate in the back of the cab? Also, that's an early-mid-70s minitruck (2WD) bed. Very much a home-brew rig. That's about as 'far from original' as it gets, but if it were cheap enough, it might be an interesting ride. I wonder what the wheelbase is - it looks too...

    1FZ-FE drivetrain in a 66FJ45LV

If you want raw speed, put a 350 in your LV. 80s are powerful, but are not a rocketship. There are big issues about fitting the 80 series guts into your frame, and if you use the 80 axles, they'll be quite a bit wider than you might like. So, don't think of this as a small project. Someone at...

    64-67 Fj45 LWB seat options

For a bench, I'd look at a Jeep Comanche pickup (admittedly rare) or a Dodge Dakota (mid-size) pickup, as being close to the right width. Many seats will be physically so bulky they will encroach on your already rare legroom. A 'cruiser buddy and I were studying the seats in my '87 Camry, which...
