It's probably long since sold now, but from memory this was an apparently original 40, blue if I recall correctly. Around 40K miles maybe. Spent it's life in socal and I think they were asking mid 30's. Worth the money all day long if it was what they said it was - which is probably why it is no...
The simple answer to your question for not being able to do YOUR OWN pre-purchase inspection is to discount the price. Make sure that it is cheap enough that you could fix whatever you are particularly sensitive about and not lose your shirt if you had to sell it in a pinch. I've bought and sold...
Sweet! Love it. God no! Don't paint it. Fix any spots to stop deterioration and preserve the rest. It took 40+ years to earn those stripes. Glad you ended up with a rig you are happy with!
Love this rig. With an unlimited budget I would hate to see what my property would look like. I would just horde these things. When "everything is over priced" that's just the new price.
@Sputnik40 If you run across a truck like this being advertised for $10-$15K, send it my way! Seriously, I'd buy more than one.
Case in point, I was at a Cars and Coffee event yesterday in South Carolina so not Cali talking with a Mud member about his truck. A dream rig. 1980FJ40, newly...
Nice job. Looks tidy. Unconventional, but I love the choice of oxblood for the upholstery. Particularly love that the floors aren't all goo'ed up with rhino liner and etc. If it runs good, it's worth the $. GLWS
Seemed like a pretty sweet deal until they got to the part about it not being in the country yet. As others have said, too much coin to drop on something sight unseen not to mention the potential headache's of import. If these folks had it available for show, they could probably ask more money...
Tend to agree. That is not an FJ.
But based on the video, you could probably make some money racing at stoplights. Thing makes a hell of a sleeper. I saw a 1000hp diesel Hummer taking muscle cars out at Woodward this year. I'd love to see them race. Wouldn't want to own either one, but...
So I've had thoughts of selling my truck because Cars and Coffee runs every other month doesn't justify keeping it, but that has not been sufficient motivation to deal with the BS and tire kickers required to sell it.
It's a 78 hardtop. I’d say about 85% of the paint is the original Dune...
