Just put 5 31x10.50x15s on my '56 F100 10' bed glass truck - solved the squirrely handling with the 15YO 235/75/R15s. Road noise not bad, snow handling good. Wish they made 33x10.50x15s for my '84 60 (only 33x12.50x15s - don't like for snow). Sick of the Goodrich MTRs - they suck in the snow &...
I like the FJC wheels, too. Did Tire Rack or anyone else show the relative rolling radii of that size Duratrack vs 15x10x31 MTRs?
Roger at Taint Paint in the Springs has done my powder painting for years: 800 733-8374. He makes a weekly run to Blast-Tech in Englewood so you could drop your...
My wife's & my DDs are Audi S4 Quattros ('01 & '93) with snows all around: she runs high-speed Blizzacks & I have Vredesteins. The safety margin is incredible in the snow. Much rather drive either one of them in snow than our his-n-hers 60s. Much rather hit someone with a 60, though.
BFG MTRs are the WORST "snow" tires I've ever had. Got stuck in my driveway with a brand new set of 33X10.5s after a wet September snow a couple years ago. Had 'em siped & they improved a great deal. But I'll never buy another set for winter use. Wish I'd known about ATs (but they don't look as...
Old tech is to put the rim on a bubble balancer by itself 1st, then place the tire on top of it & rotate it relative to the rim until the combination is closest to balanced. Then mount & spin balance.
Computerized spin balancers have made tire monkeys (sorry) stupider.
Discount will match Tire Rack, but they also know about shipping costs. Print out your online quote & take it in.
Discount siped my MTRs for "free" a couple years ago because they screwed up my wheel order. That's something you can ask for that costs them virtually nothing when they're not busy.
Stick with the ATs. I bought MTRs based on favorable comments here & their undeniable "studly" looks. The PO had 33x12.50 MTRs, but I ditched them for 33x10.50s after the 5.7 Vortec went in. They seem to handle moderate standing water pretty well, but snow & ice are different subjects.
Got...
Just to reinforce the crappy snow performance of the MTRs, I got stuck in my own driveway (0.06 slope) when my 33x10.50s were brand new. It was the early, wet variety of snow.
Had 'em siped & it made a big difference. But not enough to make me quit wishing I'd gotten the Geolanders.
Theoretically, siping makes any tire last longer. Had it done to my BFG MTRs & it made them much better in the snow. Too early to tell if it helps longevity.
