In a sense I agree with you. I think it would be awesome to get a Mosley 2F + Holley EFI. That is really ideal in a 60. The trouble is that they a back ordered for a year, and they cost 10K.
Meanwhile, this recently rebuilt 1FZ is sitting in my brothers driveway waiting to be rescued...
Thanks, this is all good advice. It sounds like the 1FZ swap is not necessarily more complicated than an LS or other V8 swap, but because it is uncommon it is something that would take a lot of careful planning.
For example, I know that with the Marks Bellhousing Adapter you can do a V8...

There is a discussion here as to whether the H55F clutch is strong enough for the 1FZ
After more searching--- Mr Wits End is planning to do a 1FZ swap into a 60, but it doesn't appear as though he has decided on which tranny to use as of yet.

After reading that thread it certainly sounds complicated. It sounds like you may need a new computer from a manual FJZ, among other things. It would probably be easier just swap his 60 body on the rolled 80 chassis. But then that doesn't really take advantage of his nice new five speed.
So using the correct search terms I found this thread where the idea was discussed, but as of yet I cannot find any evidence that someone has actually completed such a swap.

This question is really for my brother, who has the other thread going on engine swaps. But I am curious as well. My brother #1 has his 87 FJ60 with a cracked block. It has a nearly brand new H55 five speed and transfer case.
My other brother #2 has a recently redone FJZ engine in his 93...
I found this post that shows the linkage and describes how the HNL is separate from the 4wd-2wd part of the shifter. It sounds to me like something went wrong in your HNL part of the shifter and you might be stuck in N. This thread describes them trying to fix the problem.
I stopped by the shop to see how things were going. The mechanics are still trying to make it pass emissions. As Sean said above, they have now got it to meet the standards on hydrocarbons and NOx, but it is still failing on CO. It had 31 and the standard is 25. At least they are making...
Possibly. I sold to my little brother. My other little brother. He goes to ASU.

// I still claim some ownership. I sold it to him for 2k, and retained the right to buy it back, should he ever want to sell it. Hence no change to the avatar.
Questions I have:
The mechanic said he found an intake leak. But he didn't say where. Would an intake leak ==> run lean == run hot? It seems like if it had an intake leak it might run lean, and thus run hot. But I don't know.
And where are you likely to get an intake leak? If they...
But in our case, it is just running 10-20 degrees hotter than it should. It seems like if they flipped the gasket wrong you would get much higher temps than just 10-20 hot. Is that true? Or would you get that kind of result from a flipped gasket?
Jared
Sean-- some comments from your older and wiser brother
1) There is no freakin way it is the temperature gauge. You paid them 3k to replace your head gasket, and it still ran hot. You then replaced the sender with a new electrical sender, and it still ran hot. You then replaced the temp...
SJ,
Hey little brother you are fool. Lets look at the facts:
1: You live in arizona
2: where the heat is excessive (115 last week)
3: arizona is full of mountains-- steep ones
4: you tow a trailer
and you still went with the cheapest radiator you could find?
What were you...
I replaced my backup bulbs in my 72 FJ55 with the 50 watt variety. They are nice and bright, but they melted circles into the lenses. They still work, but they don't look real good.
The bulbs I used are big-- the same size as regular 1156s-- and I think I have seen smaller versions that are...
