Hard to re-start after engine is warm

I have the same hot start problem . If I use the choke it will always start but only after excessive cranking. What is this an indication of? I was hoping to get some help on this also. I would replace coil and fuel pump if I knew it would help.

    rear frame C-channel

The picture in post 3 is my work. As stated before, a real PITA to do with the body on. Dont remember the dimensions of the channnel I had bent. I think I went 1/8 under size because I was not sure of the tolerance of the bend and I wanted to be sure it fit inside the rail. Pulled in nicely with...

Rear 60 series C-Channel Rust - What have you done?

Looks like your channel is heavier guage than what i used. Should be hell for stout. Hope you have a drill press for holes because I drilled mine with a hand drill and it was a PITA. Please post pictures after completion.

Rear 60 series C-Channel Rust - What have you done?

I replace the channels with new that I had bent up at a local fabricator. Pictures of my project are on post " Pics of Frame Repair". Consider yourself lucky because I did mine with the body on on a cold garage floor. Rust was much worse than yours and it turned out good.

    86 60 won't go into 4LO

Had the same problem when I got my 85. Found that it had just not been exercised forever. I sprayed my linkage underneath several times with PB. Finally got it to move with alot of pull. Just kept moving it back and forth. It is still stiff but shifts fine.

    popping out dents

Nasty damage which will require paint no matter what you do.. Your cheapest repair are good used door and fender. Do the R&R yourself and have it painted. Paint can easily be matched by any good supplier. Too nice a Cruiser not to do right.

Motor spewing oil from "here"... What is it and WHY!!! Arrgh!!!!

Mine is not leaking. But at 250k miles, it is probably inevitable. Has anyone tried cleaning up the area real good and applying JB Weld over the plug? Do you think this would help keep it from leaking/blowing out?

TrollHole Cruisers Carb Install on a 60

Carp - Did you change out your distributor as well? If not, are there any mods to the dizzy that have to be done? I am considering Trollhole's carb for my 1985 60 (250K miles) which has not yet been desmogged . It runs ok but I am sure a fresh carb and desmog would make a big difference. I would...

    Rust Issues

Definitely start looking for doors. You have both inner and outer issues which calls for more than just skin. After you cut back to good metal you are not going to have anything to hold fiberglass at the corners. I've seen lots of good rust free doors for sale but most are out west and shipping...

    OEM vs Aftermarket, engine rebuild.

I would go with OEM gasket set and aftermarket mechanical parts. Just my 2 cents.

Rust under the rear window seal

I did this but with one of the side windows. Removing the glass is no big deal except for being very careful removing the chrome bead. It has to come out first and is very flimsey and can easily be bent if not careful. There are other threads about glass removal. Replacing the bead takes some...

    Oil Pan Gasket

Someplace there is an oil pan gasket install thread by Poser that shows how he ties each corner of the gasket with cotton string. Should be much easier than the clothes pin idea. Look for the thread.

What Started your Land Cruiser Obsession?

About 5 years ago my son was living in Portland Or. On a visit he asked me if I knew what a Toyota FJ40 was and I said no. I had been a car nut all my life and had restored several 55 & 56 Chevys but could not remember seeing FJ40's in Kentucky in the 1960's and 70's. We went and looked at one...

    Help with rusty FJ60

Anything can be fixed. Check out Coolermans build in the 40 section and Skinners build in this section for examples of rust restoration. The frame is likely your biggest concern but if just the rear C channels are bad, they can be replaced as well. Looks like CCOT is selling a 60 rear qiarter...

    Rust Advice

Mine looked just like yours or worse. I replaced the inner channels. It was a lot of dirty work but I think turned out good. Do a search om " frame repair" and look for my post with pictures. My opinion is it is worth doing.

Most hellish job you've done on your 60/62

Haven't done that much work on the 60 yet but by far the worst has been replacing the rear frame inner C channels. Have to remove the spare tire, gas tank, and then much dirty work getting the rusty channels out. Cutting out the rivets is a real PITA no matter how you do it. Recently did a post...
