Before and after photos from Cruiser Outfitters suspension kit I mentioned earlier:
Last October on Engineer Pass. I travel light. No slide out kitchen or other heavy stuff. Kinda saggy....
Today after the Kit. Slight lift w/ the Heavy springs.
Retired suspension....
Winter seems to have left Northern MI and I pulled the 60 out of storage. I realized after two round trips to CO last summer that I needed to tighten up the suspension. The creaks and groans coming through Ophir Pass from my suspension were disconcerting. Bushings were shot. Leafs sagging...
Hojack - I sat on the edge of the lake as the sun went down watching trout cruise the shore line. Mostly tailing like bones or redfish as they buried their heads into the weed banks. Rooting for scuds and nymphs? Never saw one take anything from the surface, but when the sun dipped, it got cold...
Alta Lakes CO last week:
I got lucky and found a site
With a nice view of Alta Lake
The Lakes were gorgeous:
The drive up to Alta was spectacular
Fall color was peak.
I was going to run Imogene. Keep in mind, I have no clue what I’m doing, never done it before, and just drove out there thinking I’d camp/fish/4-wheel.
At the end of day one after Corkscrew/Hurricane/Engineer etc, I realized I had totally underestimated the difficulty of these roads and thought...
the 550/Million Dollar Highway between Ouray and Silverton is a gorgeous piece of paved road. It’s on the first part of that YouTube vid I put together and linked. I landed in Ouray the first night and got up before dawn and headed down to Corkscrew Gulch out the south end of Ouray. Those first...
Cutthroat Trout. I also caught rainbows in that same pool and Brown trout over on the Lake City side on the South Fork of the Gunnison.
But being from MI, I’m partial to brook trout. They are the prettiest fish out there.
Ophir Pass - west side shelf:
Fall Colors were primo:
San Miguel fly fishing:
Here’s a Quick Story Vid from Fridays second Run on Engineer - horrible edit, but I didn’t have much time
Engineer Pass Video
It was a great time solo - Looking forward to doing it again with some folks from...
My second round tripper this summer to CO in the 60.
I follow Patrick/Bowfin Cruisers on Insta and saw his pics from the SAS. Which got me inspired to head west. After some advice and words of encouragement from Patrick, I packed up and took off. I left Wednesday the 30th and got back last...
Dragged one of the drift boats to the upper Manistee and stripped streamers in the rain. Moved quite a few fish. Boated a few to 15”. Lost a good one boat side as the net slid under and the hook pulled.....
Sage was more than generous with the swag for the video - sent us two 9” 6wt Ignitors, a 9” 6wt X and a 9” 7wt Ignitor. Plus a compliment of Sage Spectrum reels, hats, stickers and some Rio GloLines. Nothing wrong with an embarrassing quiver of Sage products.
HA! - the script called for a box of “cheap light beer”. I didn’t write the script, I was just in charge of poling the long boat down the river and setting my daughter up on fish. But...... nothing wrong with a 12 of Busch or Natty Light. If I’d had a 12 of Two Hearted Ales at 6.9%, I’d have...
Last summer my daughter and I were invited to participate in filming a short piece for Sage Fly Fishing. We spent 5 days with a film crew chasing the Hex Hatch here in Northern Michigan on the Au Sable River. My FJ60 got to play a role as well. The Film - Sage Trout Season 2020

I use Waze for road trips - police alerts, pothole alerts, cars on the side of the road alerts..... and speed based on GPS. Speedo reads 65+/- and waze says 75+/- at 3,000 rpms.
It’s a 4M. Built in Canada. Probably early 60’s I’m guessing. Cast iron burner. Handy little briefcase stove.
I ran all the way to Vail one day. I think Eisenhower Tunnel/Vail Pass were all in the 11,000 ft range. I ran it just like I cook brisket - low and slow - in the right lane.
Wisconsin beer on the spring creek
Cooking dinner on the home stretch
Tobacco and Mountain Dew got me through the drive.
Home at last
It was a great trip. about 75mph at 3,000 rpms. It took third gear and even 2nd to get through some of the passes. My favorite bit was the Driftless area in...
