on the topic of 4x4 system.... does it harm anything to leave the hubs locked in 2wd? I do it quite a bit due to varying road conditions here, seems like it would just spin some things and not cause any issues, but I don't know for sure.
makes total sense, with the center diff locked in the t-case. if i was still wondering I'd pull the rear driveshaft and cruise around but I'm pretty convinced it's the crappy tires I have on there. kicking myself for not thinking of this before.
interesting, haven't really considered that. yeah the rears are some worn bfg mud terrains and the fronts are worn goodyear mtr's, both 33 x 12.5. the goodyears look a bit smaller.
they are both 33's but the front ones are a bit more worn and slightly smaller diameter.
about 4 in. of lift, u joints are smooth, and it turns easily.
No locker. have taller springs on and extended shackles, 4 degree caster shim to correct steering. I have tested the system on jack stands and everything moves perfectly. drove the rig with hubs locked and no front driveshaft, no issues at all, so I'm still thinking its a driveline balance...
so confused. been chasing this issue for awhile. when I drop it in 4x4 there is a crazy vibration in the front, stiffness in steering, weird noises, and the power is sucked out of the engine. it also gets stuck in 4x4 and I have to unlock the hubs and rock it in reverse to get it out. otherwise...
funny story about the lug nuts but I think I'm a little above that level mechanically haha....
you know what I may do is just swap back tires to the front and see if that makes a difference.
Shims are in correctly.
Funny story about the tires.... they are worn and mis-matched, got them used. 33's by the way. when I first installed the lift a while back I did not have an alignment done and certainly should have. I drove for awhile with the steering wheel half cock-eyed from regular...
