Keep the 17k one, sell the 40k one, and buy a high mileage 100 to wheel.
Mod the high mileage one with the money left over from selling the 40k one.
40k one is worth roughly 25k
higher mileage one is worth about 12k

FYI the 80 also has glass lenses. You are referring to the lens fluting on the 80 series lights and many older units.
Regardless all hid kits in halogen housings glare, some worse than others.
Don't these trucks have immobilizers? Wonder if its something wrong with the key or immobilizer.
Friends lexus would do this occasionally and it turned out to be the immobilizer in the key.
On the way back from huntsville last night I saw a hundy on 431 with a hid kit, the glare was pretty bad. Have any of you actually tested this? It may have been because I was in my sti(which is pretty low) but it seemed on par with the local ricey civics.
