I'd do it every time you repack the wheel bearings, 30k, or if you submerge the vehicle for an extended period of time. It's pretty easy to do. That being said I have probably 50k since I did mine and I skipped over it when I repacked my wheel bearings. It's on the to do list.
This isn't exact but a simple way to think about it. You have a shaft (cv axle) that spins inside a tube (spindle). There are small needle bearings that are in between the tube and shaft, and those are what we are greasing using whichever method presented in this thread. The wheel bearing are a...
Spike do you actually have the tool because as far as I can tell theres no way to thread on the tool without removing the lock nuts that set the preload on the wheel bearing.
Do you have a volt meter? check the battery voltage, (what is it?) and the fuses on the positive terminal. does the vehicle do anything when you put the key in the ign? stalling at stops is not normal, did your vehicle do this prior to this?
Why was the battery replaced? was the alternator...
I agree with your description in the previous post. we both used breaker bar and I didn't want anyone to get confused, it's why I said I wasn't referencing your post.
2001lc - thanks for the input about the snap ring backlash, it's something that was outside the scope of this particular video and is going to be addressed in the wheel bearing replacement video.
ITRJ - with regard to torque wrenches - the biggest thing with them is to not set the wrench low...
I was able to get koyo bearings & seals for sub $100 off ebay for both sides (4 bearings, 2 seals). I pieced together the rest of the missing pieces, forget my exact total but it wasn't too bad.
I don't understand why you would not be able to see the grease exit the cv shaft when using the slee tool. Looking behind the rotor into the cv cavity when the cv is pushed out. If that truely the case, it sounds like something could be up in that area.
Oh the trees - yup as far as I know. I will be shooting a bearing replacement video in the next day or two, I hope to have that video up by the end of the week!
Leandro - I've been there before lol. If you have any questions before you tackle your brakes post up I'll get back with you as quick...
Yup, a fishing weight gauge / hook scale. Read thru the description in the you tube video all the tools required are listed there and a brief outline of the process too. If you have any questions let me know!
It's 54mm but i couldn't get a 54 unless I wanted to wait more than a week. 55 were available and they are also used on the 80 or 200 series I believe so I could help someone out on the trail that had an issue if I happened to be there. there's no issues using a slightly larger socket, the...
Hey guys,
I had a long trip planned and knew my wheel bearings were really loose, my LX is a newer purchase and I'm working my way through the vehicle. I did a quick preload reset on them and shot a video on the process. I have new wheel bearings in hand just didn't have the time to install...
If we end up doing drawers I have a few custom ideas to not loose any space to slides but we will see what we (my wife ;) ) decides on. I've seen Teflon plastic or uhmw plastic strips used with success, I wouldn't be scared to try that approach either.
