1) Is it true that any swap into a California vehicle has to be with an engine originally sold in California?
if so,
2) What diesels were sold after 1988 in California that can be swapped into an '88?

Damn my lust for knowledge. While reading more, I ran across a post that said basically the following:
If the FJ62 was originally sold in California, any swap must be (i) a newer engine, and (ii) that engine must have originally been sold in California.

Thanks everyone. Sorry for the mislocation on Proffitt. I didn't know Man-a-fre was doing swaps. Would be interested in hearing about the outcome. I was initially thinking 12HT w/ the auto (keeping the auto per the FJ62) but now I'm toying with the 1HDT (parts really).
