    HDJ81: 24v to 12v starter conversion

I had two leads swapped on the blue sea. Corrected that and it started right up. I still have a lot of pieces i removed for the conversion to put back on, but as far as i can tell, the conversion itself is complete

    HDJ81: 24v to 12v starter conversion

Removed the starter to test it and it works fine. I think the ignition wire is working and causing it to click, but it's not getting direct power from the battery. I'll take a multimeter tonight to check continuity of all the cabling to see if that's the issue

    HDJ81: 24v to 12v starter conversion

One other question. I ended up with a lot connected to main +. I have: Alternator Starter Fused links Isolator run from the auxillary + The 14 gauge wire that was on left hand side battery that you said in your write up to extend to the right hand side (main) + I had a second positive (coming...

    HDJ81: 24v to 12v starter conversion

Ahh, sorry, just a misspeak on my part. I connected the starter battery neg to the aux box negative as well. That answers my final concern! I couldn't find mention of extending the small box to the opposite battery. I was sure it was a positive so i went ahead and moved it, but was still...

    HDJ81: 24v to 12v starter conversion

10 days since I started on the conversion to a 12 v starter. I'm pretty sure im in the running for the record for longest swap in what others have said was a one day project. I believe i have everything hooked up correctly and i have rechecked everything at least 4 times. It was late when i...

    HDJ81: 24v to 12v starter conversion

I spoke too soon @mudgudgeon . The ewd's i had looked at included some diagrams of the engine bay, but was primarily for the body wiring which would explain why i couldn't find what i needed. Sending you a pm about your diagrams

    HDJ81: 24v to 12v starter conversion

Thanks @mudgudgeon. That is actually the one I mentioned above that Ive already downloaded (all 1000 pages), and it does have the wiring diagrams in it. i did have problems using the wiring diagrams. I was trying to find B+ junction box to see what had previously attached to it, but wasn't...

    HDJ81: 24v to 12v starter conversion

I have the electrical diagrams but they didn't help me much. For instance, i wasn't able to find the B positive junction box on it and i knew exactly where it was. That being said, the only FSM i was able to find was for the HDJ80, i assumed that was the same. I found it with google, because...

    HDJ81: 24v to 12v starter conversion

I experienced the pitfall of a 24v system and the decision was easy My understanding is the advantage of the 24v starter is easy starting in sub-zero weather. In Fort Smith, AR we can go back to back years without seeing snow and 20 degrees sunny and clear will shut the entire town down. The...

    HDJ81: 24v to 12v starter conversion

Thank you. I've been slowly chipping away at it since each step is new to me. Once i took the fender off, I finally found the power box for the house neg and main pos so i'll be able to complete that part which will just about finish it. everything makes sense, but i did have two positives to...

    HDJ81: 24v to 12v starter conversion

I'm trying to convert from 24v starter to 12v using @FlyAddiction 's 1HDT 24v to 12v conversion step by step He says to connect the passengers side positive through the 5511e and a fuse to the aux fuse box. His diagram indicates its on the right hand side of the engine bay I'm trying to...

I don't know what those three wires are, but it sounds like this serves as a functional connection?

1HDT 24v to 12v conversion step by step

I'm about to do the 12v conversion and came acroos this thread. Great write up, but i did have a question. In your OP topic 2 you mentioned connecting 3 wires. Is this just with a crimp cap and then leave this sitting to the side in case you want to undo your conversion ?
