Hm...Bad ideas brewing, but it seem like a pair of FJ60 long side inners could be used with IFS hubs to make a centered rear full floater of about the same width. Not to hijack, but would anyone have a good reason why that wouldn't work? It'd obviously need seals inside the diff housing.
Judging by the Samurai I was in today that rolled...First order of business is to stop attempting the obstacle. My friend just kept going...and going...
The real breakage didn't happen until after he was already on his side. That's when just about everything broke.
So, then, since the drum is the lowest part of the case, and the Orion doesn't lower that, it would be logical to assume that this transfer case wouldn't need to be modified for it?
Thanks!
For the transmission...Good luck mating up a 700R4. I think Mace has the only known adapter, and the people who made it couldn't get it working.
You could install the automatic out of an FJ62, the A440F. I don't know what transfer cases you could mate up to that to get a center rear drop.
For those with an Orion...Does just the case stick down 1/2" more, or does it lower the output as well?
If it's only the case, then the bottom of this skid plate should already be low enough.
I think the camo would look good.
You might look at making the knob out of wood. I've used friend's metal shifters in the winter...COLD!!
Anything below 10* outside and you have to wear the thickest glove you own on that hand.
In my case, the front end basically dropped straight down 8 feet or so. The camber change was visibly noticable afterwards.
To the OP: I'm curious how it might be that you bent the short side. It's darn near impossible to do without some sort of front end impact without bending the long side...
You should be able to pay less than that if you can find one locally.
If it's bent at all, don't bother with it. It'll be more of a problem than it's worth. When I bent my front I had to keep using 4wd at low speeds in cold mud for about an hour, and even with that you could see on the shaft...
1980+ CJs and 1980 Scouts. The 1980 model has a shorter rear output and is somewhat sought after because of it.
Price range...I've had one offered to me for $50 (and the guy knew what it was, not much of a demand around here), you might pick one up free if you're really lucky, or a couple...
Rear full floater 60's are almost all 30 spline.
There aren't that many 30 spline fronts floating around and it's highly unlikely yours is one of them.
The old Chevy axles were passenger's drop, the IFS Chevies are driver's drop. You'll need to change the transfer case or get a driver's drop front axle.
I think you'd be very hard pressed to get the EB stuff under a '55 without lifting it 6". Stuff's going to stick up above the axle that wasn't there before. The '55 frame was never designed for a panhard.
If you're worried about breaking the '55 front suspension with less than 6" of lift, you...
