My personal preference is to turn it up a bit, and just go like the devil. Keep backing back into the puddle to "push" it up into the joint. JUST KEEP MOVING!! That being said, my overhead is still never flat and perfect like flat and vertical can be. Even when I did my cert plates in school...

One thing I found amazing when I started to learn how to weld, is how a nice looking weld, sometimes had very little penetration and would fail badly when forced. My first semester the teacher had us make 1" fillet welds on 10 gauge, then put them into a press and bend them over the top of the...

Yeah, I was blown away. I've never seen anyone start that great. I think she's going to end up better then me at yet another thing.... oh well. That's just how she is with everything... just instantly good at it. Me.. I have to struggle and practice and practice and work at everything I learn.

Not compared to where a lot of people start out.... there are a lot of stops and starts but she has a pretty damn good pattern and is not too bad considering it's a first time ever trying to weld. Most people go way too fast or way too wobbly with the pattern. She was pretty consistent and...

My wife hates her job bad... really bad. She really hates working in an office and sitting around all day.. and we started talking about how much cooler it would be if our little company could be BOTH our full time jobs. She said she'd love to learn to weld and fab stuff... so last night we...

My latest project. Made some rad top plates for my buddies ugly tube bumper. They came out rad. Finally got to start welding again after almost 3 months of being laid up from shoulder surgery.

    Thread for hack jobs?

Oh man... I miss that scary steering site. There are still TONS of awesome pictures if you google "scary steering". I can't even figure out what exactly is holding that steering box on...

I gotta ask... about plasma cutter tables...

Speed too.... cutting thin stuff I am running the torch pretty fast... its doesn't have enough time touching to cut it too deep. That being said... they do get chewed up pretty bad. Doesn't really hurt anything. When they are too far gone I will flip them over for a few more years of use. The...

Today I got the bumper mocked up, and started welding on the brackets to mount the bumper too. And welded on 1/4 plate onto the bumper. This will give me enough material to drill and tap for the bolts. And got it test fitted. Pretty happy so far. I also found a 8274 semi locally...

Thanks, that is the idea. To keep it stock looking, but functional. I am going to start building a bumper for my wife's 82 pickup next week. That one should be a lot more complicated!

It's not got a nozzle on it, it's set up for flux core. I think the black "nozzle" is just a cover to protect the threads for the nozzle when converted to use gas.

Here is today's project. Coming out pretty nice so far. I am going to wait to cut the center out for a winch, since I think I might have to offset the winch over a little to the passenger side to clear the PS box. I haven't been able to find a nice 8274 locally... so I will just do this for...

Yep. Been lusting after one for a while, used both the Miller and the Lincoln and loved them both, but the Lincoln edged out the Miller mostly because it had the 110 outlets on the back. SUPER useful and pushed me over the edge for the Lincoln. Awesome feature. I did get it hooked up today...

Finally was able to afford a real welder. Just got home with my new toy..er... tool. Now I just have to figure out how to get it out of the truck so I can start welding stuff.

Tips for welding a 1" thk shackle mount to my ARB bumper?

Have someone who knows how what they are doing weld that. I wouldn't do it with .030 and 75/25. Use .035 and 100% CO2. That is not something I would mess around with welding if I didn't have the skills to do it right.. since it can kill someone if it comes off violently. Preheat and bevel...

Drill bit cooling system for drill press

A gravity feed would work fine.. I had thought about just a bottle with a hose coming down and a valve.. but.. I want to make something I don't have to refill and think about more then just turning it on when I start drilling. Scapdaddy.. I am drilling 18mm holes into 3/8th plate. I cut 1/4...
