Sorry to hear about the motor taking a dump on you. Makes me wonder about my DB motor I have on my 8274. I'll definately watch it and see how it performs. The first one they sent me was defective and they shippped another one out which has worked fine. If it does fail, I'll go the same route...
The way I understand it is real Amsteal Blue rope has center thread of some sort that ID's it as true Amsteal Blue. I have 100' of Amsteal Blue that I sent to Viking Offroad to have one of there spindles installed. I remember when I was talking to him, he mentioned something about it being...
I've never owned a winch before I bought my used 8274 that is 30+ years old. Rebuilt it w/ warn parts, new solenoids, and it is a brand new winch. Have no expierence speaking on the powerplant but i would prefer to have a seperate air compressor just to keep it simple...
I have the same motor as 1911 and bought it about 3 months ago, had a Made in China sticker on it. I have no complaints. The first one was i ordered was damaged but a quick call to DB and they UPS'd another one to my door free of charge.
As far as the solenoids, when I rebuilt my 8274 I...
Charles,
I called probably 10 different Warn authorized service centers and this one had the best prices by far (usually about 20% - 30% less than others). Fast shipping and very helpful on the phone.

I don't, but if you call:

and ask for Warn Replacement parts (I think the guys name is Reggie) and describe what you need, they can get it. They have some of the best prices I have found. Either that or you can call Warn...
They are good winches for sure. I just rebuilt a 8274 that I bought and ended up replacing a bunch of parts due to misuse by the PO and also being that it is a 36 year old winch w/ probably zero preventitive mainataince. It would probably be a good idea to crack the lower and upper halves and...
So that's what 8274 means. Good to know.
i just rebuilt a 1976 8274 that I bought for 375. I put a new power pack on it: $225, new motor, new brake rebuild kit, new lower end rebuild kit, and new amsteel blue synthetic winch line. I still came in under what new 8274-50 is priced at by...
Thanks for the info. I ended up just buying an entire new control pack which included the new style of warn solenoids. I tried the solenoids I posted above, but they didn't work so well. I feel much better now that I have OEM stuff in there.

I just bought a new control pack for my 8274 which has the new style solenoids on it. It came w/ about a 14-16g ground wire that I grounded to the motor bolt.

I just bought 100' of 3/8" amsteel blue. If you're looking, check out winchline.com and talk w/ Thor. He was very helpful with getting me setup and I'd highly recommend them!

Called DBelectrical today and told them about the issue. They didn't even hesitate and said we'll ship you out another one today. Had a UPS shipping email w/in about 20 minutes. Very good customer service.
I've run into a problem w/ the motor. It seems like it is binding up when I tighten the two end bolts down on the end of the motor cap. Its almost like the armature nub that sticks out into the brass bushing in that end cap is too long and when it is tightened down, it creates to much...
Got it rebuilt. I bought a new motor, new solenoids, brake rebuild kit, lower rebuild kit, new needle bearing, new solenoid cover, installed drain and fill plug. I also ordered 100' Amsteel blue 3/8" rope with a Viking Saftey Thimble to put on it as well as a hawse aluminum fairlead. That...
I'm pretty sure those type of solenoids are insulated post solenoids which require the small ground post to be grounded on each of the four solenoids, otherwise they will not function.

That's the problem I'm running into. I called this guy 12voltguy after reading about his solenoids on pirate and he said I should use the solenoids from dbelectrical. They are 90amp but it seems hard to find anything higher than that. I tried to get some information on some of the albright...
