    That's what I suspected to start with, but the engine bay was perfectly clean. Even where the rod tore through the block, there was hardly any oil on the frame. After talking to the previous owner, I could see him draining the oil and forgetting to fill it back up :doh:

    I bought the truck with the connecting rod hanging through the block, but my guess would be something involving low oil. When I took everything apart, it looked like a lifter had seized, which broke the back section of the camshaft off, spit the 4 rear lifters and push rods into the crank case...
