do you have a foot of snow on your runner when you're experiencing this 11mpg? thats a HUGE drop in mpg. gotta be something else...other than tune up parts. how are you getting your mpg numbers?
nice lookin taco you got. the prado bar is usually put on 4runners LTDs or other trim that has the big flares on them. (sport, highlander..etc). its about 4" wider than the tacoma bar, has different mounting points, the front is a bit different, and (at least mine did) had a "W" cut out to mount...
how does one take off the "rear diff cover" on a toyota 8" rear axle? or are you referring to the drain plug?
if its free, id take it and see if its worth swapping in a new axle. but if you dont have the time or ability/space to work on it yourself...then having a non running vehicle with no...
i went from 3rd gen to 80. reason being was that it accommodated 3 kids alot easier than the runner did. the extra width helped with car seats, as did the optional 3rd row seats. ive always wanted the 80, but they were still pricey at about 22-25ish grand when i was looking back in '04ish. once...
if you under stand how axle diffs let L&R axles (wheels) spin at different speeds during a turn, then the same applies to a center diff, only that it allows the front & rear driveshafts (to their respective diffs) to spin at different speeds, allowing you all wheel drive with differentiation in...
I had 4.88s on my 98 with 3.4 & auto on 315s. perfect match. 5.29s would be nice on rocky trails but would be spinning higher at freeway cruising speeds. go 4.88s.
interesting swap using the 80 setup with the t100 case. got build
pics?
it could also be the sensor that tells whether the fork/sleeve has engaged or not. on tight radius turns, if youre feeling the tire chirping or breaking free on loose terrain, then the rear is locked.
not really. started top to bottom. squirted the polish in zig zag rows. then just did counter clockwise circles while working left to right. both in application and buff. once applied, let sit for a minute or 2 to harden, then buff to a mirror shine. done...
i had a black 98, and put on some severe pinstriping. swirl marks werent bad at all. i highly recommend the turtle wax scratch & swirl remover. use it with a 10" orbital polisher. i had a cheapo coleman one i think. use polisher to apply as well as remove. does an amazing job for a fraction of...
if your runner has the elocker, it will have 4.30 gears. otherwise, it'll be 4.10s if its a non locked LTD. definitely add an aux tranny cooler...the bigges you can stuff behind the grill... maybe even a PS cooler. gears would be nice, but only if you're on larger than stock. you can use the ECT...
theres probably one of those piggy back connectors that splice into a hot wire to the lamp housing. could also be hooked up to parking lights too. if you want constant power, dont tap into the headlamp or parking lamp wiring, just connect straight to the battery.
98s never came with factory...
if your runner is a 4banger 2wd, then it can fit as they came with 15's. 16's were optional. however, if it came with 16s from the factory with 16's showing on the door jamb sticker, then it will not fit due to the bigger front brakes.
since you have access to the wheels, why not try yourself...
youd need a spring compressor. i didnt bother using one on my 98. just layed the strut down, stepped on the spring part, impacted and the strut shot out the other side. didnt go flying half way across the shop...just shot out a foot or 2. but if its a home job, rent a spring compressor
i did the tundra brake upgrade for my 98. didnt use oem, but quality aftermarket stuff. i used pads and calipers (199mm) from akebono and brembo blank rotors. sourced for a 2000 tundra V8 4X4.
you should be OK with quality reman'd stuff. just send back your runner calipers for cores. pads and...
was normal on my 98. quickens up the warmup to optimum temp. wont burn that much more gas really, unless youre at WOT, which you shouldnt be a) first thing in the morning ;) , and b) when the motor is still cold....
there generally isnt any issues with this generation 4runner. as with any used vehicle, service records/history, mileage, over all condition and # of owners is key. id avoid the 01-02's though, as some have reported tranny issues. look for a 99-00 and you're golden. bonus if you find one with...
1: dont buy a 14 year old car from a dealership. 2: dont pay over 5G's for it, especially if its 3: a 2nd gen 4runner with a slushbox. i bet the dealership bought it for 3 grand, tops. offer them 4, then walk if they dont bite within 2-500 dollars from that.
