That sucks Mike. Do you rev match it on down shifts or use the clutch? I bet the breakage was caused from the bearing going out creating slop in the shaft, but I'm no expert with transmissions.
I have always done it by taking the tires off because it seems easier to adjust everything and also have something for the end of the tape measure to hang on. Honestly I don't think it really matters more of a preference thing i suppose!
Mike, jack up the front axle, take your wheels off and do the tape measure alignment. Takes 20 min tops and will save you $70. I set mine 1/8" toe -in meaning the front is an 8th closer than the rear and have had no issues at all.
Helps to get a flat piece of steel such as a piece of angle...
What you see above is me digging into both hubs thinking that I shattered a birf since I couldn't turn left. It turns out that it was my hydro-steer binding lol. Live and learn... Good field practice none the less, thanks again for sticking it out with me Mike.
If you do the paint you will probably want to spruce up the interior a bit... At least I personally would.
Maybe make some ABS plastic rear panels, tailgate storage, etc. I don't remember if you have rear storage drawers, but that is a cheap build and makes a world of difference when storing...
Can't you find some used ones for cheaper than $240 Mike? New would be nice I suppose, but those hubs were used on a lot of Toyotas pre 1990 so they shouldn't be hard to find in a junk yard.
There's actually an fj60 at the pick and pull yard past the airport on 71, might be worth a look.
Looks good mike!
I'd be careful with that exhaust blowing right onto the bag... I had a dump pipe on for a few weeks after my swap and it pointed right at my traction bar crossmember and melted the bushings pretty quick.
Haha I feel ya, my grandpa has an '03 Prius and it gets around 50mpg. They make sense...
I'm gonna try and make the meeting in Austin this Tuesday, hope to see you there!
