Love the pics. I can also x2 that @ryaneddy16 is an awesome dude. We used to hang out all the time when we both lived in Houston. Did many a wheeling trips with him. I need to attend the next SAS.
Keep the story going, enjoying every word!
Hood looks pretty good considering its from a $2.50 can of paint. I bet it will even out, then give it some wet sand action. Just one can of color needed? I've got some paint leftover... maybe 1.5 cans, need to do my fender and hood. And yes quit hitting rocks and trees! LOL
Greg, I bet the exhaust is better because the engine runs a lot smoother. Seems like that would help.
Good work once again Matt. I was looking at the image thinking, how did he pull the third member without taking off the inspection cover, and then I remembered, Full Float! Sweet.
Nice work Matt. Funny that the exhaust is too loud for you, and I haven't even heard it. I've considered eliminating my Cat and putting a glasspack on. Mostly just for laughs but how bad could it be? :hillbilly:
Making it work, love the progress. Do you think that cover needs more bolts on it? Just to minimize rattles, etc. Will it have a seal or just metal on metal?
I've seen a lot of 5.3 Vortec builds that look factory, but I guess that isn't cool enough for you Matt :p
I'm watching this to see how it turns out. Took a lot of cojones to cut the floor like that. No turning back now!
Should we just figure that an FJ6Xs body is about 20% of total weight? Not counting roof racks, cargo drawers, etc.
I think in this case a little bit of body lift would have been a good thing for drive train clearance.
With a majority of the weight being in the drive train, what actually would...
The motor was in pretty good shape. I wanna say it had 4.11 and 33's, but I'm not sure. FJ40's tend to be a little bit of every year lol.
Yeah I think with 4.88 and that huge OD you'll be alright. It's gonna be funny at low speed on the street though... Burnouts and lots of shifting!
I've ridden in an FJ40 with an NV4500. Fifth gear was never used unless you were going 70+ on the highway. And at that point things were screaming. Granted this was in a 40, but I think the H55F is a much better choice. (I'm partial though).
I definitely admire innovation. I'm just content...
Isn't the Dana 300 a center output? You'll need a centered rear axle. Do you have a good hook up for a used NV4500? Plus the adapter? H55F bolts in. Smaller overdrive IIRC but not by much. Just food for thought.
