I have no experience with that problem, but I'd think that if the housing were bent sufficiently to prevent the Birf and inner axle from coming out that you would be able to see it. If your housing *is* bent, it's on the order of one degree or less.
The reason I suggest diving straight into rebuilding the hubs is because it's probably the first thing any new owner should do after brakes (safety first, most of the time), and because it will reveal a lot about what's going on. Plus, your pictures show quite a lot of what looks to me like...
Even if we were to assume he meant the upper trunnion shims, it's still completely incorrect.
You need to sit down and spend a *lot* of time reading about the 80 and the factory service manual. Or drop the rig off with a reputable Land Cruiser specialist.
King pins aren't found on 4x4 vehicles. They go all the way through.
A Dana 60 has a sort of half king pin, it's #48 in this diagram:
The 80 series does not use a king pin design, it's trunnion bearings top and bottom:
There is no king pin on 80s. There are trunnion bearings, and you don't adjust anything on them.
