ooof... and the press did nothing at all? Wow. I have no idea were you go from here. Maybe warm the sleeve in the oven a bit before you start at it? Not enough to get it blisteringly hot, but maybe 170?
Are you having trouble getting the sleeve to compress? That's the issue?
I know how frustrating it is when it goes south while you're going by the book and dotting all your 't's and crossing all your 'i's.
I was rebuilding my steering pump and was torquing the final bolt before I was ready to...
You're right. I'm thoroughly impressed that you've gotten this far without an air compressor. Bravo, sir. This truck certainly should be called Lazarus. What color are you painting it?
You could probably find a place for a small pancake compressor. Seriously… even if you leave it in the cabin of the truck when you’re not using it, you need one for this project. I, myself, am a masochist but not THAT much!
You need an air compressor and air chisel. Defiantly if you’re doing the whole frame. I can’t think of a better reason to buy those tools than for frame restoration. It’s precisely what those tools are designed to do. I would also get map gas torch. It will apply heat where you want it faster...
Your body mounts may not be the same from frame to frame. I know there were several iterations throughout the years but I’m not certain if the location of the body mounts changed. I do know that the size of the rubber pucks was not consistent throughout production.
I really need to do my weather seals, Windows, and regulators. My driver side window drops an inch every time I close the door. This is a great thread! Good work so far!
