About 40 years of corrosion on this grill. All it took was a little tin foil, some extra fine steel wool, about 4 oz of diet coke and a couple of hours of elbow grease.
Also found out that the EGR is not, for what ever reason bolted to the side of the engine. Replaced the hose. Thing runs like a champ. Don't dng me too bad on the cosmetics of the new hose, it's more than likely going to be a temporary fix.
Finally found out why I was having such a hard time with HP and acceleration. While poking around under the hood Friday night I found that the hose from my EGR valve to the carb was dry rotted
I've run a treatment through it for 300 miles, and have flushed it 4 times. It's still a little brown but will have to do until next year. Time to move on on to bigger and better projects.
1. Replace Carb
2. Desmog.
3. Replace drivers door panel.
4. Rebuild and replace rear window drive.
5. Fix...
Repaired some stuck grease fittings, then lubed the chassis. Ran another cycle of distilled water through the cooling system in an effort to clean out the rust. Maybe one or two more cycles and we'll be ready for 50/50 coolant.
