leaking gas from top of tank

1 PSIA (one psi above an absolute vacuum) would be a very deep vacuum, the engine could not go that deep, I think the fuel would boil before then anyway, 1 PSI below ambient (-1 PSIG) would not be much vacuum and I would think the tank would hold up to that, JFZ can you retest and tell us...

leaking gas from top of tank

7 kpH does not mean anything to me, got a reading in PSI? (PSIA, PSID, PSIG) or inches of murcury? (inHG) you are reading a low pressure well below ambient on the gauge? The gap cap has a small one way valve in it that will let air in as it is burned but this does not sound like vacuum...

leaking gas from top of tank

Took a look at the fuel tank on what as far as i know is an undisturbed 96 fuel tank. At the outboard end the two "L" brackets are seated against eachother, no gap, I would remove the extra padding, it did not help as it cracked again and it may hurt by making the tank "too big" in a sense...

leaking gas from top of tank

At the tip of a crack there will be distressed metal, micro fissures along the grain of the metal, also the tip of the crack is where all stress in a part will wind up, this is what makes cracks grow, the goal is to drill a clean round hole, this remaining round ring of metal will take the load...

leaking gas from top of tank

Yes stop drilling is recommended when repairing cracks, but I do not think that is goign to help. you need to figure out what is causing this, have you considered plumbing in a vacuum gauge to the tank and see what kind of pressures are being generated in the tank?

leaking gas from top of tank

That does not sound right, are you certain that the large vent line that comes out of the charcoal canister and terminates in the frame is clear of any obstructions?

leaking gas from top of tank

you should be able to wipe up most of the residual water with a rag from the fuel pump port, then just set it in the sun on a nice day, with both the filler and fuel pump ports open, maybe blow air though it every hour or so from your compressor.

leaking gas from top of tank

Your neighbor is correct, liquids do not burn. when I was a kid I worked for a construction company as a mechanics helper, had a disgruntled employee decide to shoot all the tanks of the dump trucks in the yard, I guess he expected them to blow up like in the movies, we drained and...

leaking gas from top of tank

25 gal of fuel weighs about 150 pounds, removing a full tank with many opening in the top without spilling gas all over will be about near impossible. Before I removed the tank I would empty it. I would siphon fuel out of the tank into a gas can, fill another vehicle from the gas can, repeat...
