If you're an ArcGIS user, there are some maps online for gravel roads in NC but with the Legislation in the 80's-90's to pave all gravel roads, there just aren't a lot around any more... I had fun exploring the Croatan National Forest a couple years ago an will probably try the Croatan...
@little_joe they are both hiking and biking trails. They alternate direction each day... hikers one direction, bikers the other.
They were smooth flow-type trails, nothing difficult at all. There were a few creek crossings (no water, just down a steep bank and back up) but nothing...
Got a chance to check out Williamson Preserve down near Clayton today. Beautiful weather and great trails!! Many thanks to TLC for preserving a beautiful property... will definitely go back!!
You can size up but I'd check your stand-over clearance. A shorter stem or more backsweep in the bars would help the reach of the longer toptube but you'll want to make sure you're comfortable getting on/off for sure
I'm a 29'er guy but I'm also 6'3". Some people complain about 29" wheels being hard to make tight turns and having more felt gyroscopic effect but I don't notice those as much on an XL frame. Bikes are almost as hard to get as guns and ammo now so you'll have to be the lookout. Geometries...
Would LOVE to ride... I've been doing some PT for hand issues so I've been off the bike for a bit (pre-loading my excuse for being slow) but I'll catch up eventually :)
That place is a lot of fun. I went a year or so ago and the 'gravity' section is more than I need to be riding these days. I really enjoyed the xc trails but it's a haul from Raleigh.
I struggle with my phone as well. I like to have it accessible but worry about damaging it. I used to use...
Competitive Cyclist had a close-out sale on the Ibis Ripley LS v3 frames last fall. I had a Kona Honzo (hardtail) that I REALLY liked but my back complained after riding it so I bought the Ripley and swapped all my parts over then sold the Honzo frame.
Rear is 120mm and I have a 130mm fork up...
Give us a report, post ride. I've heard its pretty decent for the flat/sandy area its in. I don't get down that way much but would love to know if its a decent stop if I ever do...
I wondered if this was imminent... I saw a bunch of orange flags on my last couple of rides and thought that the AA may be doing something on that side. So Sad... Best trails in the triangle. Not sure of the politics with the Umstead Coalition but it seemed there was some movement on getting...
That's me... The family had other plans last night so I got a ride in at 286. I was really upset with the rain earlier in the day but it turned out to be hero dirt and significantly lower temps. Were you riding Umstead??
That is why I don't jump... that would be me as well. Bought a 160mm 27.5 to explore that space and just don't have the time or intestinal fortitude to send something like that. Hope all is well for Linden
My current montra for ramps: 'if it's over the knee, it's not for me'
