Probably my fault (poor technique, not uber strength, I'm sure), but trying that caused the tubing to twist and start to crimp. So rather than deal with a compromised fitting I went with a different hose that has a cast brass fitting.
This is the alternate hose if anyone wants a reference...

No magic, just air line routing along the side between the fuse box/battery and fender.
I had the same problem. A Husky compressor tank drain hose from Depot is a perfect fit. And then the port on the right feeds along fender to bumper.
I remember asking someone about it at Slee and they said the hose ends could be rotated but I couldn’t get them to budge and ended up crimping...
