That’s the most minor hairline crack I’ve seen. If you are just doing short trips, it’s not an emergency, as the initial leak won’t disable you (though it can be messy).
On the other hand...it’s gonna blow before too long.
If you plan any significant drives, I’d go ahead and swap it out...
They give you what is essentially a rebate on services. So... -even if you get a future service done, you send them the receipt, and they send you a $300 check.
My 100 series radiator had the same failure at about the same time...from (I believe) the same design flaw of making the part number spot a weak point in the effort to make a flat stamp surface.
If you never had a radiator failure in 300k miles on your 100? Consider yourself lucky...because...
Wow. That's a great deal! At that price...I wouldn't wait.
It can go all at once, and it will happen soon anyway... Once that crack is there--it's ready to go.
Nice! They gave me a $300 voucher when I did mine... Sounds like you did even better. My dealer has always been good to me too. Sorry to sometimes hear horror stories on mud. Hasn't been my experience at all here...
You were pretty fortunate in the past...because every one of those parts (except the fuel sender) failed at a similar point in the life of my 100 Series.
Hey @Willy beamin ...
Have you run into any issues with your Zeon Platinum's remote, or problems ever releasing the electronic clutch? I'm thinking about that winch, but a little concerned about relying on remote-only operation. Any comments or observations? Tanks!
On the BP-51's... ARB/OME is in the process of addressing an issue with them. The rears are down, but they are still working on an update to teh front coil-overs. Make sure you are receiving the updated rears, and I would suggest you wait on teh fronts until it is confirmed by ARB to be the...
You may be onto something there with an age-based prediction.
In fact, that's about the age my 100 series radiator was when it failed as well.
This age-based prediction is definitely supported by the number of 2008s listed above...
Hard to know, but I would imagine the break-down (becoming...
It won't be cracking any time soon when new. The pattern has consistently been something that takes time. By most accounts, that weak point tends to crack anywhere between 70k-130k on a new truck. In my case, it happened at 81k, but my 200 is 9+ years old.
I can tell you that only two weeks after I saw the hairline crack forming? -It started to leak. -And I'm driving very little these days due to my current gimpy status. I wouldn't want to mask the hairline indicator with a bunch of putty...
What's most annoying is that the overwhelming majority of failures all stem from the "built-in failure point"--where they decided to creat a flat spot for the part-stamp on the top. The radiator housing is a nice, strong curved surface...right up until they mindlessly decided to create a...
I just got the exact same deal. $300 voucher. I'm in a 2008 with only 81,000 miles.
I think that's pretty nice of them considering it's a NINE year old truck and out of warranty for 6 years.
I DO find it annoying that they still have not redesigned the top to eliminate that obvious...
Ah... Ya, no funny fixing stuff. At least you've already built most of your BBBB (Big Beautiful Bad-ass Beast)...
I'm still savin me pennies for major mods (2 bumpers, roof rack/lights, gears/lockers/35).
About to spring for a Zeon 12-S tomorrow before the $200 rebate period ends.
Hey...
