With my OME suspension I didn’t need it at all. Shackle reversal raises my COG and the springs are more flexy now, so I definitely like having it on for highway driving.
That would 100% be the time I’d want a functioning sway bar. One of the twistiest roads in America, no guards rails, tight lanes, and sheer 1000-1500’ drops? Yeah, I’ll take all the stability so can get.
I drove with no front sway bar for about 6 months and in certain situations it was downright scary. Mostly on the highway in the mountains rounding sharp curves at speed. I got some Man-a-Fre sway bar end links and they’ve been great. They come in a bunch of different sizes and have ball joints...
My application is a little different but I went from 7 leaves in the front down to 5. I have a shackle reversal and run the HZJ75 springs, which are the dimensionally the same, except that they’re longer. I put in the stock 60 packs in the rear, and while the shackle angle is about 85 degrees...
@cruiseroutfit You guys are great. I wasn’t criticizing, just passing along a data point. Everyone over there has been fantastic to work with.
Thanks for the photo of the OME widgets too. To me that proves that the rubber isolators aren’t meant to be simply thrown on the new springs packs. They...
@Hokie LX I can confirm that the OME CBS01 works perfectly on 6x Dobinsons rear leaf springs. I did that almost exactly a year ago. Also, somebody (I think you) mentioned above that the lower spring plates can actually get bent trying to torque them over the rubber pads. If I had a dollar for...
FWIW I always advocate against using the rubber pads with aftermarket suspension. The OEM spring packs are just the right thickness where the metal channel on top contacts the lower plate right as you get the u-bolts to their torque spec, and so the torque both adequately squeezes the springs in...
