I have a 1976 3/4 tub. It is pretty solid, except a few spots of rust thru in the rear sill, rear corners, and a small amount by the rockers. The prior owner tack welded in some sheet metal in the back of the tub. Not sure why, because the bottom of the tub looks good. Maybe he was protecting...
Welcome!
The very good news is that it was parked in a garage for the past 20 years instead of out in a field growing rust.
There will be plenty of opinions that you'll get here and most will be much more relevant than mine. "squeezer" made some very excellent comments above so I won't try to...
Yes, the one you have for sale looks pretty nice. Hoping to find one with windows first. I'll reply to your classified ad if I become more interested. Thanks.
Do you still have this 4 speed transmission and transfer case? If so, does this include both shift levers, e-brake, and cone? Do you have a picture you can send?
Yes, you are correct. I was just referring to the new improved oiling system as a F.5 (or "F and a half") to distinguish the difference of the F without it and the 2F with it.

Wow, looks like a nice engine you will be putting in your 40.
I may be interested in your engine, tranny, T-case, etc. Is the compression still strong? Any known mechanical problems?
Some 1974s had 3 speed transmissions and some had 4 speeds. Is yours a 3 speed or 4 speed? Did Kidd...
Thanks Keith for letting me stop by today and check out your project. While your above pictures are great, the engine, etc. look better in person. Seeing someone else's progress helps to inspire me to keep moving along with my 40.
Let me know if you ever need a extra hand.

I will be watching to see what you do with your roof. I need to figure something out in the future for the rusted roof in my '78 FJ55. Of course, besides the rush in the roof, I have rust in lower fenders, so I will be looking for fender patch panels too.
Wow, Keith, your build is looking great. I like all the attention to detail. You're taking a nice looking 40 and will be turning it into something that will look amazing.
Let me know if you need an extra hand to lift or hold something. I won't be providing technical support, but sometimes...
