Great tips, thanks. We've talked with both Howell and Holley and so far none of their recommendations have helped. It sounds like others have found good support there so I'll keep trying. So far we've not burned a new prom so maybe that will do it. If anyone has contacts at Howell or Holley...
Long story short here but the 350 we had built for my wife's 73 fj40 is outfitted with a Holley TBI and a Howell Kit. The motor has a bit of cam but nothing too serious. The motor either idles rough or hesitates at mid rpms. After all the obvious tinkering failed, I took it to a very reputable...
Thanks for the input. I am torn between buying the procomp rims or having a set of '81 stock steel wheels blasted and powdercoated. It's Indecision Time again.
Has anyone tried these procomp wheels?
PCW52-5883R2.5
15x8, 6 on 5.5 Bolt Pattern
Backspace = 2.5 in.
I am considering a set of 33x10.5 tires to go on them.
I am trying to avoid spacers. It seems most folks were saying 2.75" of backspacing was about right. 2.5" gives more clearance from the TRE, Right? What's the ideal backspacing for an 8" wide rim?
Anyone have experience with this Procomp rim?

4wheel parts sells them for $56 each. I am planning to add some BF goodrich KMs 33x10.5 to 'em.
The back of my buddy's Tundra bottoms out on the whoops with a moderate load. He put in an overload leaf spring kit which helps a bit. Unfortutunately the bolts used to attach the extra leafs hit the frame. What are the best options, coil overs, air or new suspension? We're not talking about...
After tightening the front differential nut I got a little wiggle in flange that connects to the driveshaft. I assume this is not ideal. Can I run it a bit or not? What part(s) most likely need replacing? How much torque for the nut?
I swapped hubs from an 81 into my 73. I used the axle shafts and lockouts from the 81 as well but not the axle housing. Make sure you get the hub centering tool (search for SST and you'll find tons of links and advice) to ensure the shims are set properly.
The best pic I have at the moment is attached. The bug catcher window on the older door has one hinge on the front of the glass that allows the window to tip outward rather than rotating on a center point like the '73 wing window. I can get better pics later in the week if someone is...
Anyone know if the front door rollup glass from the really early 40 doors (not sure the year) will fit a '73 door? I have a set of old doors that have a different wing window set up and a narrower top window frame compared to the '73.
