aftermarket cigarette lighter replacement (just pop-out part)

I'm a little late on reply but I appreciate the responses. I'll probably just bite the bullet and get the oem replacement as suggested. Just have to overcome my initial cheapskate gut reaction. Thanks.

aftermarket cigarette lighter replacement (just pop-out part)

Since I've owned my '77 FJ40, it's been missing the pop-up cigarette lighter. The socket part is functional with power and I think original. I very rarely use it to charge my phone and wanted to get the pop-out part to fill the empty hole and just complete the look. Went to autozone and picked...

    Rough idle

I assume if you disconnected the solenoid while running, it'd run rougher or stall since it's cutting fuel supply but I've never really had the need to try. Did you try to listen for the click with the single key turn like I suggested (no need to start the engine)? Or try just running it with...

    Rough idle

I just finished tracking down some rough idle issues and looked at the solenoid (turned out to be a large vacuum leak due to the intake gasket). Anyhow, the purpose of the solenoid to cut off the fuel supply after you shut off the engine to avoid "dieseling" where it keeps running for a second...

Add system cleaner - 77 FJ40 just died. REALLY rough starting

Really, really old thread UPDATE: I finally gave up trying and took my FJ into a classic car shop nearby. After much diagnostics they found the source of the issue: a huge vacuum leak due to a "blown-out" intake gasket and a warped exhaust header. This was just about the only part I didn't...

Add system cleaner - 77 FJ40 just died. REALLY rough starting

No issues with pump, filter, or gas flow into bowl as far as I can tell. What/where are the air correction jets? I inspected, cleaned, and/or replaced the 2 main jets (shorties, in bowl) and 2 "slow jets" (long skinny guys) taking care not to reverse primary and secondary - no change in...

Add system cleaner - 77 FJ40 just died. REALLY rough starting

Sorry, yes, did switch up and cap the vacuum hoses and checked PCV, PCV hose, and brake booster hose. No change in behavior, but that would probably explain why I also had to manually "un-choke" previously when it was running. Yes, getting gas to the carb - just above middle mark now due to...

Add system cleaner - 77 FJ40 just died. REALLY rough starting

Checked for a ignition fuse (all fuses are good). Will wait for a helper to check for adequate spark from all wires tonight. Per responses above, next steps will be checking the valves and rechecking the static timing as part of that. I'm starting to run out of time and patience on this -...

Add system cleaner - 77 FJ40 just died. REALLY rough starting

Interesting. I just assumed it was getting adequate spark since it was at least firing (albeit, poorly) and the distributor/rotor looked good. I'll check this fuse today if I can find it.

Add system cleaner - 77 FJ40 just died. REALLY rough starting

Checked the PCV and its hose and power brake hose - both look good, but I'll take a closer look. The high revving may be related to when I first started it I had the choke pulled and it probably needs an adjustment. I don't think it revs that high with the choke in, but I'll check again...

Add system cleaner - 77 FJ40 just died. REALLY rough starting

It was "B-12 CHEMTOOL" cleaner. Well, I've been through a carb rebuild, checked static timing, and all vacuum lines and still can't figure this out. A couple questions: 1. I don't see a "fine mist" of gas in the carb when I press the accelerator although the area around the venturi gets...

Add system cleaner - 77 FJ40 just died. REALLY rough starting

The FJ was probably sitting for 3 or 4 weeks but I only drive a couple times a month these days. The fuel filter looked fine when I replaced it and now that I think of it, fuel was flowing freely from the tank side of the filter (both sides really), so I don't think something was clogging the...

Add system cleaner - 77 FJ40 just died. REALLY rough starting

Had a carb rebuild kit laying around that I'd never needed. I cleaned up the intakes, replaced some of the jets, accel pump, and gaskets just to see if that fixed the problem. Not a full rebuild or carb cleaning by any means.

Add system cleaner - 77 FJ40 just died. REALLY rough starting

I haven't posted in a long time because everything was going great until recently. Recap: Hadn't driven my 77 FJ40 (2F with aisan carb) so went to advance auto and got some fuel stabilizer/system cleaner. Poured it in, rode it around for a while just fine, then it just went up and died with a...

    Dynamat? Help

I can't speak for dynamat, but I did notice a decrease in heat from the floor pans and the tranny hump after applying a bedliner to the inside of my 40, which only means, your 40 was even hotter (if you can imagine) before the PO put in the herculiner. Personally, a couple thick floor mats and...

    slave cylinder failure, again.

I forgot to check out SOR, but I ended up finding the aisin slave on amazon of all places and it was $30 cheaper than the "toyota" model ccot sells (and free shipping). After reading all the feedback, I'm confident now aisin was the right choice and this should be my last slave install for many...

    slave cylinder failure, again.

Thanks for the feedback. Never heard back from all-foreign.com but will pull the trigger on the oem aisin nonetheless.

    slave cylinder failure, again.

Thanks. I put in for a quote from them, and am glad to hear it's not just me who's had issues with the ccot aftermarkets. If I can get a decent price, OEM makes sense, considering that my clutch master looks OEM (might be the original) and is rusted all over, but it has survived 3 slaves. I...

    slave cylinder failure, again.

I've gone through 3 slave cylinders now since I've owned my '77 FJ (5 years). I can't recall exactly, but I'm almost certain the last two times I've replaced it with the aftermarket ones from ccot because the toyota originals are 3X the price, but now I'm thinking maybe they're worth it. Any...

Soft Brakes - Drums or Master Cylinder?

Thanks guys. It sounds like the drums need adjustment. How do your "free up the adjusters" before you adjust? I have a brake tool but could only get one of 4 adjusters (2 on each rear wheel) to turn. I'll try to get some pics of the missing screw. I wanted to remove the drum just to see...
