A good thread and great Landcruiser photos (if not tainted by some criticism of Australian or Australians).
I currently have a 1997 40th Anniversary 80 series Land cruiser with the 1hz diesel engine and 5 speed manual gearbox. I've modified it with a rear detroit locker, Safari turbo, dual...
I just checked to make sure!! No speakers at all in the front doors of my 1997 40th Anniversary. There are only front speakers in the dash, rear speakers in rear doors, and one speaker in the cargo area!
When I first used my cruiser (12 months ago) I used:
93.36 litres
785.5 km's
=8.41 km/l
=11.89 l/100km
=23.9 mpg (imperial gallons)
That's city driving (ideal conditions, but normal driving).
This was for the non-turbo 1Hz diesel and 5 speed manual.
There's no way in the world I would get that...
Although it took a bit of effort, I made sure that I fitted all screws, and sealed everything! LOL
It's good to get that cleaner, cooler air into the engine and not have to worry about getting water into the engine (especially for a diesel).
Cruisers definitely look better with a snorkel...
These lightforce lights are the best driving lights that I have ver had, or used.
I use them on the open highway when touring (never really needed them for around town driving...).
They have decent mounts too, not those tinny ones that forever adjust themselves, especially when you go off-road.
Although mine is the 1HZ turbo diesel I haven't had any issues with overheating.
My last trip was towing a loaded camper trailer, 4.5 adults, air-con on (warm and humid day) and included open road and low range 4WDriving and my temp guage pointed to the usual spot.
We have a tyre sales company here in OZ, that likes to promote nitrogen in tyres. You tend to see a lot of women driving cars with red valve caps here, as well as guys that are easily talked into sales gimmicks.
One motoring organisation here has made it public that putting nitrogen in your...
The biggest cause of failure in the outback is computer failure. Once they fail then that is where the car stays. Diesels also don't use spark plugs, coils, leads, etc. This might not be important where you live but here reliability can be paramount.
The reliability and economy are the main...
The main reason that I like the diesel in my cruiser is that it is extremely reliable and no electronics to stuff up. I also can drive over 500 miles without having to find a fuel station. I never smell the diesel while I am driving, and the diesel sound (which I like) is only there while...
H4 outer (low or high) these are 55/60w (or thereabouts) as standard, but I've fitted 90/100w
H1 inners (high) Ive fitted 100w
Lightforce driving lights (via separate switch in high beam circuit - legal requirement) 100w
Aussie versions don't have the low beams on with the high beams.
We have the twin square headlamps. The outer lamps are low OR high, and the inner lamps are high only.
Do your 80 series cruisers use H4 bulbs. If so then you probably don't want high and low filaments on at the same time due...
Simply remove your spare wheel and measure the space for yourself.
I have moved my spare from under the car to the rear wheel carrier. There is now a huge space for a larger auxilliary tank (or a second spare tyre). The existing auxilliary tank is located behind the diff and above the spare...
My 1997 80 series 1HZ diesel 5 speed was getting 24 mpg around town (ideal conditions, normal driving, and imperial gallons) and some open highway driving. This has dropped to 19 mpg since I have fitted the turbo.
976.3 km (606.64 miles)
114.77 litres (30.32 US gallons, or 25.25 imp gallons)...
