1985 3B engine rebuild due to blowby: No!

Hey there, i had the opportunity to take a spin in Ralf's BJ73 yesterday. It runs great and i am a little jealous and disappointed, because my 3B-II with supposedly 5 more horses seems to be in worse condition. Btw. i run my engine on 5W50 fully synthetic with no leaking issues and i ordered...

Troopy (etc) Gull Wing with (Marine) Hatch?

Hm, yes, i think so. Maybe it is cheaper because they are producing their glass in house!? Unfortunately there is no option for the SWB 70 yet, but they invited me to visit them with my shorty and discuss a possible solution.

    Differential or Transfer Case Ratio?

Well, thank you all for your advise! I do not want to turn it into a race car. The 60mph range for cruising is fine - with the option to go up to 75 for a short period/overtaking the trucks on the autobahn. As mentioned above, i just miss some power when going uphill and maybe in...

    Differential or Transfer Case Ratio?

My BJ70 runs okay with the 33s - actually they are 285/75R16s or 32.8" on 80s steelies - but I would like it to be more responsive to the throttle (without adding a turbo). There is some grunt missing on steeper sections on the highway (reminder: I live in Germany, you are kind of stuck in the...

    Differential or Transfer Case Ratio?

Hm ... seems to be no topic of interest for most of the 70 owners!? @MyCruiserisaHogBeast: Maybe you can keep us informed about how quiet the gears are and if it is a suitable way to change the final gear ratio.

    Differential or Transfer Case Ratio?

Hello friendly people , i am considering to change the final drive ratio on my 1989 BJ70 (3B-II, H55F, FF LSD rear) to suit it better to the 33's i am running. It runs kind of okay with the 4.11 differential ratio without carrying anything, but we are planing a trip around the Balkans...

Why is this part here? 3bii air intake

I am also running a 3B II and removed the "disc" part of the butterfly valve and it did not affect the engine at all. I kept the shaft to keep the housing airtight.

Changing Oil Pressure sender unit on BJ73

I replaced the sender unit - finally :) old sender unit new one, had to replace one connector It was quite easy after i removed the oil filter. Problem now: the oil pressure pointer is gone to valhalla years ago (after i replaced the instrument cluster) ... Is there a fix for that?

What did you do on your 70 series today?

Hey Billy, thanks :) yes i want to wrap a bumper under the body - someday I think i want to have it like THIS (as seen here) For now i leave it the way it is. The plan is to change to electric cooler fan, lift the body 1" and build new bumpers front and rear (3" pipe - THIS is the old front...

    First Compression Test

I do not feel lucky with a difference of minimum 45psi on the third cylinder. I rechecked it minutes ago. This time the engine was on high temperature and I got 500/495/460/520 ... Afterwards i poured a little bit of oil through the glow plug hole and got 520psi on the third cylinder :-/ The...

    First Compression Test

I did a compression test aswell (3BII, rotary pump). Got 507/500/464/522 ... and now i am a bit worried about the high numbers (and the difference of the 3rd cyl.) :-/ Do they increase with lower engine temperature (it wasn't hot, just warm after i did an oil change)? I will do another test...

40 series owner considering a BJ73 for daily driver

Hi guys ... i drive a BJ70 assembled in november 1989 and i think it got the 3B-II. It has a square/finned valve cover (similar to the 1PZ and 1HZ), a rotary pump, the header is different, it was painted blue and some minor things i can't remember (it looks exactly like the one in this thread...

Changing Oil Pressure sender unit on BJ73

Do you guys have a better pic where exactly this sender unit sits on a 3B/3BII!? (above the motor mount? same on 3BII?) I bought one for my BJ70/3BII which never had a sender or even the instrument. After i upgraded the instruments i had no signal to the gauge and i am thinking about that every...

Headed to Germany; school me on 70 series

:D Haha ... in general Germany isn't that bad ;) Groceries are cheaper, you can drive as fast as you want on 50% of the autobahn ... on the other hand older offroad vehicles have a bad reputation - especially the ones with a diesel engine.

Headed to Germany; school me on 70 series

Greetings from germany :) I use my BJ70 as a daily driver and i live in Cologne ... that green sticker thing is a PITA and i am not allowed to enter the smog-zone. Yes, the Cruiser is always parked outside the zone and i use public transportation to get to my apartment (i used to park in my...
