I can't believe no one has mentioned the head gasket or the the aluminum head that likes to warp at the slightest hint of an overheat. 1FZ only of course...
In my experience, Kumho's are fine for car tires, Goodyear's are just plain not good, and BFG's can't be beat. No experience with the other brands, but I say stick with the KM2's...
You can get a whole airbag set for less than $200. Thats what i did when I bought our cruiser with minor front damage and the airbags were deployed. I got a set off car-part.com, installed them, and the system is good to go. Since it's a 1997 there's only 3 parts to the system, just the driver...
My brothers 80 consistently gets better MPG than ours and he has no O2 sensors, no cats, and the CEL is always on. Our 80 is fully up on maintenance with 151k while his is not and has 190k. Everything else is essentially equal between our trucks, except that ours is 1 year newer. Can someone...
Depending on condition, $2500 could be a decent price. And 221k miles isn't bad at all as the 3fe is an awesome motor. Under powered? Uhh, so is the 1fz... I actually really like the 3fe, plus it isn't prone to HG failure and head warpage at the slightest hint of an overheat.
If it runs good and...
That sucks. The upper pan is all that remains seeping on ours as well, though not even enough to drip on the ground, so I'm procrastinating as long as possible. Good luck.
On your gear selector indicator on the center console shifter, are the orange dashes correctly corresponding to the gear the tranny is in? If not, there us an adjustable rod that runs from the shifter to the tranny which may be your culprit.
More than likely though since your problem is...
The wooden handle against your ear is a great trick; I actually usu a LONG Philips screwdriver and it's worked great to diagnose valve ticks, bad accessory bearings, etc.
Anyway, good luck with the Toyota Tech and your knock.
I'm thought I read on bitog.com that moly fortified grease isn't recommended for wheel bearings because moly is so 'slippery' it can let the balls or rollers slide rather than roll.
I've always used Walmarts Everstart Maxx batteries simply because their warrantys are so hassle free. The only time I actually had to use it however, was because I left the lights on and it drained the battery. Being three years old I took the battery out and into Walmart to have it tested. But...
I use Rotella T 15W-40 in everything I own; 1997 Land Cruiser, 2002 Tacoma, 2011 Yamaha FZ8, and my lawn mower. The new Yamaha might surprise you, but Rotella T and T6 (not the T5) are JASO MA rated.
I love Delo 400 15W-40 as well, however it doesn't meet the JASO standard so it's a no go on the...
