I posted this over on the Rising Sun forum, but I feel it bear's repeating:
"The GCLC were the greatest group of people I have had the honor to share the trail with. I have met dozens of great individuals in the past 10 years I have been addicted to this sport/hobby, but this is the first time...
Here's the pics I took last Saturday. http://public.fotki.com/mrboyle/explorer_4x4_trips/bookcliff-cruisers-/
Had a good time. Looking forward to the next trip!
My '80 has no problems rubbing the leaf springs with 2" BS wheels running 37's. You may have some issue with the tire contacting the firewall at full stuff, but you can either use extended bumpstops, tub the firewall or both depending on how bad the contact is.
Where it sits as of tonight:
Detail shots of the cage:
Turn signals are temporary (gotta keep it somewhat street legal)
Trying to get everything finished so I can shake it down before Cruise Moab!
Out with the old!
In with the new(er).
Not a major power increase, but it runs 100andfiftybillion times better than the over carbed 20r, it doesn't leak oil like a fountain and the timing chain isn't trying to rattle its way through the front cover.
Cleaned up some of the wireing...
There should be three wires comming off the ignitor. A white one (turns brown at the connector), a yellow one and a black one. The black wire is your tach lead.
You can angle shim the front. You need to be careful doing this though as you will reduce the caster angle. In order to get a good pinnion angle and maintain proper caster may require shiming and a cut/turn on the knuckles. Warrior Products makes the best shim available for this: Leaf Spring...
The 4bt was never offered in a light truck or SUV platform. In order to be smog legal the engine has to come from a similar platform or a passenger car. You can't legally swap a medium duty engine into a light truck.
Sorry for the thread hyjack.
Not sure which part of AZ you are in, but the granite that covers most of the state is hard on any tire. I don't think you are going to find one that will not chunk apart on the stuff.
