    3rd gen 4runner Bilstien 5100 adjustables

I put the 5100's on the rear as well. I had Tokico Trekmasters (the green ones) but replaced them when I replaced the front Trekmasters. The rear 5100's have more travel than the Trekmasters but are much softer. This gave for a noticeable difference on the road in terms of increased comfort. I...

    Ham antenna mount location questions

Congratulations on your exam. You picked a good antenna. I had a Larsen 2/70 but ended up selling it as it was a bit too floppy and tall for my roof top. Something to consider about HAM antennas is a ground plane. For example, a 2 meter 1/2 wave antenna does not require a ground whereas a 1/4...

Looking for a NMO mount for a CB but find plenty of info for HAM

I'm not familiar with the Gamiviti mounts but I'm assuming it's the thing that mounts near the hood. Run a regular NMO mount to that bracket and mount a Larsen 27 whip. I've never been a fan of the looks or performance of a fiberglass antenna. NMO is so much nicer as are antenna options. There...

    Adding a E-locker to a non E-locker 4Runner

I have this saved on my computer. It's what I used on my eBay fob. When I bought mine it only came with one.

    Adding a E-locker to a non E-locker 4Runner

The Tundras and 100 series use a larger ring gear. I would assume the carrier is much different. As far as axle lengths I've never heard or seen of someone that has done this swap that needed new axles. There are different versions of the e-locker ecu. Mine is black but I think the Tacomas...

    Adding a E-locker to a non E-locker 4Runner

There are no locker or non locker axles. What you already have will work. As far as wires there aren't any. I suppose if you get a harness it will have all the wire but in my swap I supplied the wire. On the ecu there is a pin for the speed and one for 4low. I think what you're asking is what...

    Adding a E-locker to a non E-locker 4Runner

Where you located? I've got wiring diagrams from somewhere online, they can be had easily. If I were you I wouldn't worry about getting wiring from the crashed truck. I'd get the ecu and the plastic plugs that plug into the ecu. You can see from mine I just had those, bought the RR lock switch...

    Adding a E-locker to a non E-locker 4Runner

Another thing to consider is the age and mileage on a 3rd member. The member can be 15 years old and can have a bunch of miles. While they are great quality they may benefit from a rebuild. I was considering rebuilding mine before I installed it but it had low miles, I forget how many now, and...

    Adding a E-locker to a non E-locker 4Runner

I got my low mile 3rd member for $200. Since then the prices have sky rocketed. I recently saw a guy selling a complete, drum to drum, set up for $1000+. He had bought it and never got around to installing it. For the housing you have two options. Modify the one you have or find an e-locker...

    Adding a E-locker to a non E-locker 4Runner

The ring gear is the same size locker or non-locked. I've got a '99 3rd gen with a manual transmission. Most of the diffs out there were from auto 4runners that had the limited option. I ended up finding a 3rd from a Tacoma with the gear ratio I needed. Below is my write up. There are many ways...

    3rd gen 4runner Bilstien 5100 adjustables

I too have the adjustable 5100's with some OME springs. The thing about springs working or not working is in regards to using a Tundra coils which is popular for lifting. It's a larger coil in all respects and requires a Tundra top cap to properly hold the coil. I had the same trouble as you...

    What is the Gold Country...

So you ordered some tires? Rock sliders are perfect steps for little kids. Even in her cowgirl boots Maggie can climb in using the steps. One benefit of factory running boards is that they are large and offer a lot of rocker paint protection. A lot of guys remove them for looks but the paint...

    dual band VHF/HAM antenna recomendations

I had a Larsen 2/70 and it was a bit too whippy and tall for my needs. I replaced it with a Comet B-10 and have great performance. Reception wise I feel it's very similar to the 2/70 at a fraction of the height and cost. Both are NMO mount which I prefer.

Share with me your HAM Radio Setup

First off you need to make sure the DIN slot is deep enough for the radio. I wanted mine pretty flush with my stereo face plate but also in a location that allowed my face plate to hinge down as that's how the stereo face plate is removed and how you get CD's in there. I got some paper sized...

Anyone running Baofeng UV-5R for mobile

One of the down sides of a 5r, I've read, is from high gain antennas. Not even the roof top type. You can google about upgraded rubber duckies for that radio. I think an icom or Yaseu model is better made and from my experience you won't run into the overloading problem. There is a new radio...

Use an Android phone for Mobile Hotspot / Tethering to computer or tablet?

I'm with VZW and use Android devices. I tether with my Galaxy 3 and Samsung Tab 2.0 7" using pdanet and foxfi. Mine works best with foxfi on the phone and pdanet on the tablet.

USFS digital maps for Android / iOS

Is this map set any better than what you can get on Backcountry Navigator? I like BCN because you can get FS maps, topos, aerials, etc. With a GPS enabled device if shows you where you are the entire time.

Share with me your HAM Radio Setup

I've got a third generation 4Runner, 1999, and I've had a couple radios mounted. One of my first mods after buying the vehicle was to mount a DIN sized CB in the dash. I do volunteer work and wanted better trail communications so I ventured into the world of HAM radio. My first radio was...

Crossband Repeat on a Yaesu 8800r with an FT-60r

Yes. Even with a mono band HT and 2m on the 8800 I would be transmitting low power simplex to the 8800 from the HT all the while needing to hear everything on the repeater station. My Bofeng does dual watch really well (like quickly between the two frequencies) and I assume my Yaesu HT would as...
