Hate to do it, but the time has come to sell the project. I am hoeful that someone in the club will finish it up.
'73 by KS title FJ40 - May have to submit for a new one
'76 tub - cleaned and coated with Chassis black - underside
'78 Frame - with Disc front axles -all new parts, coated with...
I am in the process of wiring a 3FE in my 40. I used the complete engine harness and a pigtail of the Main. spliced to a new fuse box and harness. Put the ECU in the glove box.
assuming this is manual transmission, you have to remove the flywheel to get to the bolts that hold the housing to the motor. I spin the flywheel by hand to get to each of the bolts. Obviously have to remove the clutch and pressure plate to get to the flywheel bolts. Assembly is the reverse.
I am working on the wiring diagrams and trying to combine what I am doing with new harness. Hopefully that will help others.
I will keep posting
Here is a picture of the tab that you have to grind down about 1/4" to get the brake booster to fit. I am using the booster off the '78.
Mounted the ECU in the glove box and cut a hole in the back of the box to run the front wiring harness and the pig tail of the rear harness.
Mounted...
With the tub on I decided to go ahead and strip the inside, clean and paint with truck bedliner so I can start running wire. Only a few rust spots on the outside of the truck and will not effect the inside of the tub.
Pulled the new Centek wiring harness - wiring was pretty hacked up on...
I added a 4 inch lift and 2.5 inch Shackles. Running 33x12.5 Thornbirds.
Body is from the 76. Flipped it over cleaned and painted with Chassis Saver
Body is on and my little girl is ready to go get ice cream...
Next step was to paint the Frame with Chassis Saver
I then mounted the 3FE on the Chassis
Tips - us the 3FE motor mounts in the front. You will have to enlarge the bolt holes a little to get the right fit. Took five minutes.
I used the 4 speed trany from the 78. The fly wheel...
Couple of members asked me to post up my conversion to a 3FE in my FJ40. I have more pictures that I will post when I figure out how to get a decent resize from a kodak disposable I used at the beginning.
I am starting with a little history, currently I am running the new wiring harness...
They are great to work with. I have purchased everything from a fj40 tub to misc relays, brackets. ect.. for my 3FE. James always comes through with exactly what I need.
Scott I have a 73 axle with the drums still in tack. I have not looked at the condition yet, If you want to take a look you can have whatever you need.
Scott
I have pulled both ways. Much easier assembly with the trany and tcase out. If you decide to pull just the engine, be sure to support the tranny and tcase. Both supported by the engine mounts. I have reassembled the engine and tranny after the leaving the tranny behind. Alignment is a chore...
I have only purchased Ironpig's custom parts. Everything has been top notch and nothing had to be altered to fit my rig. Lance makes a killer replacement bed for the 40. Not stock, but looks awesome and will last a lifetime. If I was closer to Ironpig, I would have used them for more fabrication...
I have a tranny and transfer case you can have. It would need to be cleaned up and gone through. No idea if it works. PO had it sitting in the back of the truck when I purchased. I am in KC. I will shoot you an email as well
