I've never used one, so YMMV. Your definition of cheap is relative. If you want to keep the stock bumper and use a stock hitch mounted unit, there's Wilco Hitchgate™ Solo and RIGd RIGd Supply.
You may be able to have something fabbed up, but would likely be more expensive.
Great thread. I've been drinking beer all night, so take this with a grain of "salt". I have one comment and two questions.
1. Comment: When did we start salting the roads in Idaho? I recall as a kid, if you couldn't make it in the snow, you put chains on, got a push, and/or got a ride in a...
Some of the stuff I've seen used to stick the clear plastic barrier to the door looks like it is applied from a tube, like with a caulking gun. Looks like mirror mastic.
I cannot feel it with my finger nail. It was running fine, not using oil. I don't have compression numbers. Was not really expecting to find this, so a bit bummed. I could just run it, was thinking of that as an option as well. It's just that those long weekend trips can sometimes be 2-300...
I pulled the head on my '94 1FZ-FE due to blown HG at 176k miles. I was hoping for pretty cross hatch on my cylinder walls, but turns out they have some good scoring. I was hoping to do this on the cheap, just use it as a camping/fishing backroads truck. Should have known that's not possible in...
Assuming you still have this? My 94 has a blown HG, and this might be a good way to save some time and effort getting it fixed. $750 is more than I want to pay though (I'm a cheap SOB).
The starter in my 1994 FZJ80 started clicking awhile back, once in a while wouldn't start, after a few tries would catch. Now it stopped completely.
So, I figured time for a rebuild. Looked under there, and I see a Huskey Auto Electric model...
Looking at parts stores, there are a dozen...
I always thought removing the rotor was a good trick. Quick and easy, carry it with you (don't lose it). They'll get give up quick when the truck won't start. You could always take the battery instead...
As a backup to the rotor, I like the idea of a window sticker that reads, "This truck...
It is very simple here in Idaho, only one county tests (Ada, where Boise is), -1980 are exempt, 1981-1995 get a tailpipe sniff, 1984- need a CAT, 1996- get the OBDII plugin check.
I find myself with a 1983 FJ60, and am also wondering TBI or TPI (or Vortec). Rather than hijack this thread...
I have an '83 FJ60, and a '94 FZJ80 (newer more powerful engine). You can't go wrong either way, both will be fun. My wife much prefers the 60, it is simpler, seems more roomy, doesn't have the big bulky dash and all. Visibility seems better with the windows. 80 is a bit more stylish, more...
