1977 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40...
I know this is lame, but can you tell me how to get the vinyl panel off? There are screws on the door pull, but I'm not sure how to remove the crank. Does the panel just pop off?
Sean.
Good day
My cruiser was sitting for over a year in my driveway. Starting about 3 weeks ago:
- Put in a new battery, the other was long since dead
- Changed the oil, new air filter
- Put some quick-start in the carb, fired it up and got the fuel flowing
- Fixed a fuel leak at the aux tank...
Well, after all of the hard rain the past week in So Cal, I now have a nice spashing sound inside my driver side door when I close it. Can someone point me to a write-up or how-to on disassembling the door so I can clean it out? Maybe I can try to fix the mechanism so the windows goes up and...
OK, which is it?!
OK guys, I just received my spark plugs from CDan yesterday (OEM W14EXR-U). If the rain lets up for a bit this weekend in So Cal, I may have a chance to change my plugs.
So which is it? Should I listen to the 1977 manual and use 0.039 for the gap, or should I use 0.032...
First time changing the plugs on my 77 FJ40. I have the original owner's manual and the original 2F manual, they both say 0.039 (USA) for the gap. Yet many of the threads I've read and other online sites say 0.032. The manual does mention 0.031, but that's for Canada.
Should I go with...
I need to replace some fuel lines that are leaking, and I'd like to keep with the current red and blue color for the lines rather than just black. I've been looking around and haven't found anyone who carries them yet. Anyone know where I can get these?
Thanks,
Sean.
UPDATE!
I bought some "Engine Starting Fluid" from Wal Mart for like $2.37. I changed the oil first, then sprayed the fluid in the carb for about a second, turned the key, it fired right up then quit (still no fuel). Did that 2 or 3 more times, the fuel pump primed itself and it started...

Hi All,
Newb here. I have a 77 FJ40 that's been sitting in my driveway and neglected for about a year (moved to a new house, got real busy, etc., now I have a smog check due in about a month!). I've read quite a few posts already, just wanted to...
Smogging a '77
FYI, if you have dual tanks, you are exempt from the new EVAP test.
I just smogged my 77 (12/76) FJ40 in CA. I've been busy for the past couple of years with a sick kid, selling a house, moving, etc. The FJ sat for about 9 months without being started. Smog was due so I...
I'm looking for an experienced FJ40 mechanic in the Chino/Corona area (So Cal).
I know there's someone in the Corona area that's good with 40's, I just don't remember where he's at.
I have tools and I'm not afraid to do things myself, but the problem is I need to get it smogged in less...
I have to do the same job on my 12/76 40 soon. I'm also 1 . I've flushed everything, taken out the radiator, looks pretty straightforward. But, tips like this:
are awesome to have ahead of time. Any others?
Thanks,
Sean.
Works great
A follow-up on this. I hooked the battery tender up to the starting battery as suggested by Deltran (see thread link above). Worked great, both of my batteries are fully charged and tested out great under load. I also ordered the 25ft extension from them. I have the ring-terminal...
