Two extiguishers are on the list! Could this be as simple as replacing the alternator, or do I need to check out an electrical failure somewhere? Do alternators just catch on fire sometimes?
When I got to Lowes yesterday, I smelled burning rubber and then see smoke coming from under the hood. Upon looking through the crack at the edge of the hood I see complete orange. So I run inside yelling for a fire extinguisher (ashats thought I was kidding). Once I make it back out the flame...
That's a good question. The dealer just told me the manifold was cracked. I need to dig deeper into this because I am getting very poor gas mileage and my LC is running very sluggish. How would I tell which manifold is cracked? Thanks.
Just had the same problem on my 62. Had my battery tested at local auto place and came back fine, but once in the truck, same problem. Toyota said the battery had a bad cell, so they put in a new Toyo battery and no problems for two days now.
My 89 fj62 has a cracked manifold- or so the Toyo dealer says- and I was wondering how easy of a fix this is? Is it expensive? Time consuming? How does it affect the truck's performance? Thanks.

Well I got my battery charged and tested- everthings good. I put it back in last night and my 62 started stronger than normal. I shut it off and about 15 hours later I went to start it and it wouldn't start. There is power to the accessories, but when the key is turned to "on" position, nothing...
I left my lights on the other night and caught it but not before it killed my battery. I jumped it and it started up,and drove a few miles, but after I shut it off and tried to start it again, it was dead. There is power until the key is in the "on" position (the radio and clock work) but when...
I understand completely. I found a 60 locally but the wife nixed it and told me I need to get a more reliable vehicle (translation-get rid of the gas guzzling money/time pit). I can understand her point- of the three 60's and 62 I have now, they have all seemed to decrease in relaibility. I wish...
I was trying to remove the outermost cat yesterday and noticed that the pipe going to the engine was loose. Could this account for my poor gas mileage and lacking power. I had originally thought that my cats were clogged but the PO had popped through them already. Which brings me to my next...
I have similar problems with my 89-almost positive it's clogged cats. Not only are they original but I can smell them burning on hill climbs. Possible tranny filter, too?
Todd
About 7 MPG on my 89 but the tranny filter needs changed, new air filter, my cats are clogged, and the rear drivers leaf is broken, plus whatever else. I love my cruiser!!!!
Yodafrick,
I need a front bumper with mounts and endcaps (really bad) and a grill (not concerned about chrome as long as it is not cracked). Thanks.

happens when I am cornering to the right. At first I thought it was in the front end but today I definitely think it is coming from the rear passengers side. Again it only happens when I am cornering to the right and it sounds like a humming/rubbing noise. Thanks.
