There is soooo many threads and information on this forum about the 80's fan clutch with theory and things to do to improve the performance. All you need to do to glean massive amounts of info is a search on "fan clutch" specifying 80 series forum. Here's an example...
You didn't mention you replaced the sensor. You said you replaced the gauge. The gauge is in the instrument panel, the sensor is on the engine. The sensor tells the gauge what to display. I would follow @greentruck 's advice.
Also I was scrolling back through your thread and I saw this pic you posted:
I recently built this model kit:

And somehow I chose to paint it the same color (faded of course for age...
Thanks for the update, Juancho! Good to hear from you! Is it normal for your area to be dry this time of the year? Here in the state of Oregon (USA), we're going through a wet spring, which is normal for us. It's just amazing how diverse the weather can be, along the Pacific coast of the...
No disrespect, but just defending my point of view. Maybe you never had a stock 80 or drove one for a reasonable amount of time. But there is a big difference in lower mph performance with 35's and stock 31's with the non turbo 1FZ. I bought my '94 used in 1998, bone stock with the Michelin LTX...
 I still think it's gearing, but it doesn't hurt to make sure all your ducks are in a row. The telltale symptom to me, was when you said that in low range it's smooth from idle up to 3k rpm, and it's not in high range. If there was a fuel or air problem that affects...
Charlie never mentioned any rough running or stumbling - just doggy performance. And he had pretty much gone through the engine. That's exactly why I suggested gearing. I had read most of the way through his original post in this thread and near the end he mentioned 35's and stock gears. It then...
Yep, we're not talking about pushing aluminum and plastic 😓 An overbuilt rig with steel bumpers, sliders, skid plates, aux fuel tanks and any other armor doesn't help with OEM gear ratios - not to mention bigger tires. I don't know about yours but my '94 tips the scales around 7200 lbs, and...
Believe me, over the period of ownership - since 1999 to now, going from stock 31's to 33's and eventually 35's, my 5.29 gears were the best performance enhancer for me. I also run 35's and it was suggested to me by Zuk (gearinstalls.com) who installed the gears and Harrop's e-lockers, since I...
I would be willing to suggest it's your 35's with stock gears. Not on a highway, but on a side street with little to no traffic, put it in low range and try your acceleration and see if you experience the same doggy performance.
Wow, PTO never occurred to me. Yeah, I read it in the original post, but it went in one eye and out the other:rolleyes: Sorry, I've no experience with PTO's, although I always thought they were the cat's meow - unless you stalled it crossing a creek and can't restart the engine.
My rear axle breather is extended to the area behind the fuel filler which is, for height., near the top of the rear fender. My other breathers (front axle, t-case and tranny) are extended separately to the top, or just below the hood, in the engine compartment. I believe, that Toyota extended...
I would not terminate, with air filter or not, an axle or t-case breather (vent or whatever you want to call it) into the interior of your rig, unless you enjoy the smell of gear oil.
Yes, it is a known negative symptom, maybe the only one of lithium bats. Well, except the extremely high price. EV's suffer from this, too. It would seem to be not a great decision in colder climes, to have to rely on a system, with out a battery heater of some sort, that it's main source is...
Also, if you're running the winch from outside the truck, you might run the controller cable to you sitting in the rig and helping the winch by putting the truck in gear and using the throttle. It's amazing sometimes how just a little more traction or even wheel spin can get you over an obstacle...
It seems like one of the things we learned in basic electronics was if you hook up batteries in parallel, the result would be the average of the batteries involved. IIRC from the video, the run down main bat in the truck was measured at 6.5 volts. So considering the tool bat is 18 volts, the...
I also use NAPA brake pads and shoes on my rigs, including my '94, for a couple of reasons. I live in a small rural community and NAPA is the only parts store in town and secondly, I'm older and through experience, don't drive my rigs like I'm in the Baja 500 or Le Mans. Speaking of Le Mans...
I kinda understood your 1st description that the front end dug into the "soft tundra". On an outing with another rig, I've purposely stuck (going forwards) my front end for a winch pull. That time I was pulling a Bronco uphill. I was leading rig. Took me 2 winch pulls to get up that hill. Turned...
Wow, if all this damage was on the tractor pull incident, your rig was dragged for aways to get that many teeth damaged!
And what's the next step when your rig is being dragged? Either secure it to an immovable object or the method @Mark W mentioned.
Agreed about the parking pawl and...
