I have Front Runner rails up top so can add load bars when I need them. I often haul two canoes or a cargo box up top. I did not need a full rack for that so I like the removable option.
Just caught your thread and that you are in Eastern Iowa. I live in CR so had to say hi. Sold my 80 and picked up a GX470 in 2015. Great all around rig for daily driving and exploring. Still like it after driving 90k miles.
Here is mine with a 2" Dobinsons lift with comfort shocks and progressive rear coils. Cooper ST MAXX in 255/75/17 bought new for $600 on deal from Discount Tires.
I went with a combination of parts to fit my specific needs. I wanted to carry two canoes on top and wanted as far a bar spread as possible. Helps keep long canoes stable in high wind. I wanted the bars to be able to slide so could also use for cargo box, hi-lift, treds, bikes, etc. I used...
That is one reason I went with a Stow Away swing out. Very solid and mounts high. No heat/exhaust issues on 4,000 mile road trip through Southern Utah and Grand Canyon at the end of July. Plus I have a bike rack that mounts to it while keeping the basket on. Very useful.
I run 255/75 Cooper ST MAXX. I feel no issue with power loss. Spare fits fully inflated with no KDSS. I am running a 2" Dobinsons lift and FJ Cruiser wheels. I will probably bump up to 255/80 on my next set of tires. Nothing wrong with 255/75 but with the lift I want to go bigger. Had these...
Thanks! It was an extremely tight squeeze back there. Had to plan to fit equipment where the distance between seatback and rear door worked. Very happy with it. Was going to make that piece removable but added more complexity and would be less solid. Survived a two week trip across southern Utah...
I made a simple one that had to leave one of the third row seats in operation. I have four kids and one of them has to sit back there. Mine is pretty simple. It removes easily and attaches to floor using the cargo hook bolts with a simple bracket. It holds two Front Runner Wolf boxes, has a...
On Friday threw error codes for stuck valves in the emissions system. Limped home from work. Ordered Hewitt bypass kit which showed up yesterday. Installed in about 1.5 hours and I am an amateur at best. Everything runs like normal again and no error codes. Very happy.
Can't speak for stock springs but I have comfort valve rear Dobinsons shocks with their med. progressive rear springs and the ride is great. Dobinsons shocks and 2" springs up front. Not harsh ride at all. The shocks are much more stout construction than the 5100s.
Finished up my camping gear box and shelf. One kid sits in third row so made a fixed Chuck box behind the seat. Tight squeeze. Two Front Runner Wolf boxes fit in the pocket under the cooler.
