Find a garage that will put dye in the system, then use it for a couple of days and then you or the garage should be able to find the leak by checking for the dye.
What is Toyota's deal with not positively attaching the connectors of electrical motors? I just had to do the front differential actuator motor soldering to get the 4wd to engage on my FJ. Why do they think metal will just magically stay together?

I use the same as post #2 put as close to the top outside edge as possible. I think the 2" diameter is the perfect size to see what you need and still keep most of the mirror free.

I would stick with the cheap route and just modify the existing air intake to work with the snorkel,
