    BFG AT vs MT

put a set of 33" m/t's on a 40 series cruiser and get it up to 80-90k on snow covered roads... i dare you, make that a double dare. sipe the s*** out of them if you want and 4wd won't help much either. i spent all winter driving on s*** covered roads, i love the m/t's but not in the snow. the...

    BFG AT vs MT

i don't know about a/t's, but m/t's are a nightmare with even a bit of snow on the road.

FJ40 - Shop Charges - Am I being taken advantage of??

i'm no expert but 16 oz. sound bloody huge to me. if those mtr's are that much out of balance from new....??? that's a pound out of balance. sorry about your luck. hope you find a fix. is your truck soa? if so could the cut and turn be different from side to side? i guess a four wheel alignment...

FJ40 - Shop Charges - Am I being taken advantage of??

if you own a 30+ year old 4x4 you should really learn to wrench a little bit. it will save you thousands, and give you skills that will prevent minor problems from leaving you stranded. also free you from unscurupulous mechanics. prepare for bloody knuckles. :wrench:eric

    !975 2f compression?

i think the fsm says about 145 psi for a new engine. but i got one with(if you can believe anything you hear from a salesmen) 23,000 km's and all the cylinders are around 128 psi. so maybe your engine is just broken in. if you can get a deal i say get it, you can always flip it. eric

    anyone ever use 24v headlights?

so i found a source for 24v head lights, obviously the headlight circuit would have to be rewired. has anyone ever done this? i would be interested in hearing any input. probably solve alot of electrical issues. thanks, eric

    Edmonton area mechanic list

i went to alberta driveline when i needed my driveshaft balanced. they managed to find a replacement yoke, had it installed by the next day. seemed like a no b.s. kind of place. i was going to get them to do my t-case, till i ended up in cow-town. of course 4wheel auto has a shop as well.

just dropped off bj42 for t-case rebuild

buying it was the cheap part, i had to put $3-4000 in to it just so i could drive it on the road. lots of work, plus i had to track down the title. a couple owners back,pita... never again.

just dropped off bj42 for t-case rebuild

i guess you need both tranny and t-case. t-case from a 42 is different. plus only certain years have an actual stick shifter, after that they are vacum shift. then you need the drive shafts modified , apparently 5-sp is 4" longer than a 4-sp. sounded like a lot of screwing around. would have...

just dropped off bj42 for t-case rebuild

i was hoping to do it myself. can't afford to deal with my own learning curve, so i opted to have it done by a shop. took it to pro-active auto here in calgary, someone on mud pointed me to them. was hoping to go to a 5-sp. but apparently it's not a direct bolt-up and go, so opted for a rebuild...

can you do spin OME springs?

can you do a spring flip with OME springs? looks like the spring packs would have to come apart to spin the bottom over load spring back to it's original orientation. want to get as much info as i can before i start soa conversion. hoping to find some 60 series springs, but want to know my...

    Who's running 60/62 rear springs...

you must have been reading my mind. i've wondering about 60's springs when i realized 55 springs would have a different pin size than my 42. you must get tons of flex with long shackles and slack shackle angle? eric

    Looking for 4.11 Thirds

so i got ahold of the guy in vancouver. he still has a hand full of 4.11 thirds. apparently they will have different splines depending on year. i'm not sure what year was the change over. i think most of his 4.11 thirds are late 70's early 80's. they $150 the later thirds are more expensive...
