So my transmission died on Monday. Fine. Going to be expensive to rebuild but I love the old girl so what can I do.
Then the transmission guys say the transfer case needs new bearings and seals. Not in the budget, but I think I can cover the cost.
Now they say I need to replace the radiator...
Seriously. Thoughts? The horn hasn't worked ever in the last year since I've owned my 62, and then the other day I'm walking out from the store and a 20lb pug is standing with its front paws on the wheel and the darn thing is just blaring away. First time I ever heard it :)
As you can see, my suspension is the opposite of awesome, but since my front two tires are bald and in need of replacement, I'm going to tackle this first.
There looks like all kinds of room in the wheel wells at the moment to accommodate a bigger tire, and since I'm not planning on doing any...
I'm going to be heading over to the Ellensburg area Saturday morning for a little exploring. I could conceivably be anywhere in between Lake Cle Elum and Yakima, actually, and haven't quite figured out the best trails to wheel yet but don't mind exploring.
Anyone going to be over that way or...
File this under no question is a dumb question, but are the manually locking front hubs on a 62 the same thing as lockers, just manually activated?
And if so, can one get similar locking hubs for the rear? Or should I? Everyone seems to run different equipment where lockers are concerned, but...
In dash?
Under the ashtray behind the gear****?
Overhead console?
Center console?
And what about your antenna? I know high center mount is the best, but I hate the way it looks and would rather have detachable antenna mount either on the hood or on the rear fender....
Getting my CB...
I've been a 62 owner for about 4 months now I guess, and it has the stiffest gas pedal ever. You have to push so hard to get the thing down! When you're cruising at highway speed its not so bad, but on long car trips my leg/hip gets sore from having to mash it down. Is this easy to fix? Is this...
This last weekend I took my 62 for its first trip (since I bought it) to the mountains, and it performed like a champ on snow and ice, despite managing a measly 35mph or so near the steepest part of the pass :)
Between the salt on the roads and the slushy mess that wound up on my windshield...
The accelerator on my 1989 62 gives me quite a workout. I thought (for some ignorant nOOb reason) that after I installed my kickdown cable it would be easier to depress, but it's as hard as ever. It occurs to me that this should be easy to fix, and for the long-term health of my hips and back I...
I was driving home tonight, maybe only a couple mile drive, and as I was driving around my neighborhood looking for parking I began to notice that the wheel was starting to pull strongly to the left. Not so strongly that I couldn't easily maintain control, but considering that the alignment had...
When I purchased this rig a couple months ago it came with an uninstalled ATM kickdown cable which I just finally took in to a transmission shop this morning to have installed. Currently, the engine revs pretty high before shifting, and manages to shift into neutral when I come to a complete...
So I'm not mechanically inclined, just to get that out there. Much respect for all you guys with the guts and smarts to wrench on your rigs, but I'm not that guy, and am more than happy to compensate people who rock at landcruiser mechanics to help me make the upgrades/repairs.
Anyway, so when...
SO yesterday against my better judgement I took my 1989 fj62 through a car wash, even though the power antenna didn't work and I couldn't retract it all the way. Surprise, surprise, that the first big roller in the car wash broke the antenna clean off! Feeling like an idiot aside, this seems...
My second post is in regards to two cosmetic issues that while not as important as initial maintenance and winterizing for the pacific northwest, are things that I want to fix ASAP, and wanted to know how easy/difficult they are to do myself, and whether the scope of the jobs is larger than I...
Hi, everyone. Nooby McNooberson here. Literally my first post. I've been thumbing through threads on ih8mud for the last several days after taking the plunge and buying a 1989 landcruiser FJ62 with 227,000 miles on it (red -- I'll post pictures ASAP because she is FINE) from a heck of a nice guy...
