That truck has been painted in the last couple of years. Probably paid 5-6K for it, put 10-12K in and now wants a 10K payday. 180K miles is not low...
This looks good, but it has spend a LOT of time up north and there are no picks of the underside. If it is clean, running WELL, and truly...
Brammo,
You know, the real problem with these prices is resale. My FJ62 is a GREAT driver, no rust, 4:88's, rebuilt tranny, good motor, great a/c (for a cruiser), etc. I have had mine for 10 years and daily driven it most of the time. I get comments all the time, "if you ever want to...
This is a TLC level price. As good as this rig is, and it is spectacular, at this price there may be 1 or 2 buyers in the country.
The fact is a V8 swap/resto of this quality is not going to bring this kind of money. Maybe in 10 years, but for now it is a labor of love.
Currently a swap...
While that is a nice truck, and values are on the rise for them, long term they are going to be difficult as parts are only going to get harder find.
Unless it is going to be left in the garage, I think the price is too high.
I am wondering what a FJ62 with a HFS or Torfab V8 conversion is...
It's a flip.
According to the linked ad, new paint, rebuilt front axle, water pump, and my favorite "new engine seals".
Truck looks good, someone bought it, cleaned it up, and is selling it. If the work is good and the truck runs well, maybe even not a bad price.
So, back to the topic at hand. Just to really screw with the values, I am thinking about swapping in a LS....I am figuring $25K to have the job done right. TLC quoted my $40K.
So, what is a 90 FJ62 with a new LS3, 4L65E, etc. worth???
Surely not what it costs to do the swap...
I have been in your situation recently.
1990 FJ62, 225,000 miles and the A440 started to slip.
Here are my costs for a complete rebuild of transmission AND T-Case. All new Toyota internals on the T-Case, standard rebuild of A440 with a NEW valve body.
T-Case parts $1500. The shop I used...
I live in Plano, just north of where these trucks are being sold. I am not in the market, but might sell if these are the going rates.
1990 FJ62, 247K
1983 FJ60, 190K
1985 FJ60, 173K, rebuilt motor
1987 FJ60, 209K
They all have fresh paint, some with converted A/C, wheels, ARB racks and...
Having been way down this road, and rebuilt my A440, I have a question.
Obviously it overheated. Did it ever slip or drive strangely?
If not, change the fluid and keep going. Chances are good that it is no worse for the wear. At 190K miles it is worn, but not done. I rebuilt mine when it...
That is a clean rig, but how does it look underneath. If the body and frame is clean with no rust, engine compartment clean, then maybe $12.5 is not crazy.
I would want to know the following:
1. Has the head been off and redone?
2. The A440 is good tranny, but has it been rebuilt?
3. How...
My transmission cooler lines are starting to weep at the transmission cooler, the O Rings are shot. Does anybody know what size they are? I was hoping to replace them tomorrow and didn't want to wait on the dealer to get them....
MB
Or....
You could buy this one:
http://www.cruiserparts.net/parts/fj60.html
Transmission and Xfer with only 71K for $2400. I have bought parts from them and they are easy to deal with and quite knowledgable.
You would have $2600 leftover. That would cover the cost of an OME lift AND...
