Gas makes for cleaner welds but on a 110 the gas limits the gauge of steel you can use (<1/8th). I've done 1/4 plate with a 110 flux core and had it take some abuse. If using flux spray down your steel with anti-splatter or Pam to make clean up easier
Hobart had a 140 that ran on 110v but was sketchy.
The Lincoln 110 with flux is pretty good with a few available on Craigslist for <$300.
4Rnr swears by his and his giant booger welds.
I have a few left overs from my 40 if anyone is interested. Front and rear axle housings, knuckles, fan shroud, starter, maybe a fuel pump. Need to make room before I grab my winter project.
PM me for details.
It's been awhile since posting here. Berate me all you want.
I have a buddy with a 40 he's restoring and am looking for a mechanical fuel pump for a 2F. I've tried to steer him to an electric unit but he wants it to look stock. Anyone with an extra lying around? I'll make him pay dearly...
I sold my 40 back in October to a fellow Mudder. He did a great job getting it up to snuff.
