    Help! Water in cylinders!

Awesome- thanks for the comment and the tips, especially the carb studs + antisense- that’s what I’ll do!

    Help! Water in cylinders!

Ok all- here’s a big update. In case I lose some readers, let me ask a question upfront: does anyone have the bolt dimensions for the 2 bolts that hold the thermostat housing together? For the update: I received the fixed head back, and the shop did a seemingly nice job of “plugging” the hole...

    Help! Water in cylinders!

Finally getting to put it back together, was just waiting on new gaskets that JUST arrived, compared to the head gasket I took off and there are some notable differences. The new one is from cruiser corps and is supposed to fit a 75+ 2f(mines a 77), and god knows where the prior one is from...

    Help! Water in cylinders!

Thanks all! And I’m as interested as you to see the repair- it was explained to me over the phone and sounded like a bunch of different steps(some of which were hard to follow). What was important was he was confident in the repair; I’ll post more pics/details when I receive it…

    Help! Water in cylinders!

Thanks all- quick update: I took the head to a machine shop, they called back and- after a good laugh- told me they were able to repair it! I’ll share pics when I pick it up later this week, in the meantime i want to ensure I have all supplies to put the head back together. I looked on the...

    Help! Water in cylinders!

Thanks- the cylinders all look very good, very similar across them all. There is a lot of coolant everywhere, but I’m hoping with the head work and of course oil change(then maybe another oil change soon after?)/coolant flush, I’ll be in the clear. Any other suggestions? Max

    Help! Water in cylinders!

ok- got the head off! Really wasn’t that bad, though I’m sure it’s 10x harder to get it back on. Now that it’s off, I have a good picture of the issue(attached). My plan is to take it to a few different machine shops and see what they think about repairing/plugging it- really would hope that’s...

    Help! Water in cylinders!

Okay all, Finally had the time and guts to dive back in this afternoon, and after about 4 hours I have the carburetor off(bungied to the side), intake and exhaust manifolds off (much easier than I expected), power steering pump assembly off, and 14/15 head bolts off(see pictures below for...

    Help! Water in cylinders!

Thanks all for the comments, suggestions, advice. I had to take the last 36 hours to step away as honestly it made me a bit sick to think about, but now I’m back and after considering taking it to a shop to fix, but like @MDH33 said, I’m looking at this as a leaning and joint afterward it will...

    Help! Water in cylinders!

Ugh- yeah: if the passage is supposed to be shallow, I can confirm mine is not. So if I drilled through, that’s a new head, right? This would definitely be new territory for my technical (in)capabilities, so I’ll need to do some research and likely source the parts but farm this one out...

    Help! Water in cylinders!

Sorry- can you expand on that? The hose going into the shiny new fitting connects to the heater. The other hoses connect to the air filter housing and the other goes below the carb…

    Help! Water in cylinders!

Thanks @Skreddy - see below for photos of the hoses. Only thing not shown is the to/from the vintage air heater, but the (outlet?) goes to the “T” on the lower radiator hose, and the (inlet?) comes from the port right behind the coolant sensor. Gosh I’m hoping this is as simple as a hose...

    Help! Water in cylinders!

All, You may have seen my other thread about the “heater hose” where I had a frozen coolant plug bolt on the head I had to drill out. Good news is I finally got it out today! Bad news is, when I reassembled everything, filled the radiator with water, I noticed the carburetor starting to fill...

    Help with heater hose!

Grinding out with dremel I get and can do, but can you explain a bit how you would chisel?

    Help with heater hose!

Thanks Sage- I did try a screw extractor, and appreciate your vote for the drill out option(plus magnetic tool is a good add).

    Help with heater hose!

It ran well before, so hoping to not let this scope get out of control as there’s a ton of other projects I’d like to do…

    Help with heater hose!

The saga continues! I’ve been working at least a week on getting the plug on the head out, and after marinating in PB blaster, heating with torch, using 1/2” impact wrench at 150psi, it’s not budging. So: I bought every contraption to take out a rusted bolt, including a bolt head grabber...

    Help with heater hose!

Ok- one of the hardest parts of this job of adding the heater has proven to be finding a socket to remove the plug that’s currently in the coolant port. In case it helps anyone else in the future, the plug in mine is a 9/16 “pipe plug” female socket. Spent hours trying to figure that out, and...

    Help with heater hose!

Thanks so much all for the information. I got my heater 98% installed, except I ran into a super stubborn 4-point bolt that is the one pointed out earlier in the thread. It’s been soaking in pb blaster and I ordered a 4-point socket set- hoping a little blow torch + impact wrench will release...
