Have owned my FJ for nearly a year & still think it is a great truck. Have taken it on long trips to Yellowstone, Glacier, Mt. Hood, and local trips in Texas. Gets alot more attention than driving my Z06 but not the gas mileage. The FJ isn't for everyone - another attractive attribute of...
Ordered an ARB roof rack with the grid bottom for nearly half of the cost of the Gobi. Also, the ARB has a flat bottom while the Gobi follows the curve of the roof. If you haven't bought a rack yet, consider the ARB in addition to the Gobi.
Purchased two of these switches from Dallas Toyota, they come with wire extensions that plug into the back of the switches. They fit perfectly in the blank spaces. I am running two IPF Xtreme Lights and one is a spare for future accessories. :grinpimp:
On a recent visit to my Toyota dealer I saw an FJ with the factory brush guard. Noted that it seem quite secure and functional. Had spots for two lights and seemed to be of good quality. Not sure about .pdf for install instructions, perhaps the local Toyota dealer could help with that.
Many of us can relate to your experience with the FJ. As with you, kids are gone so my wife and I bought the FJ for us to travel and have fun with. We have other vehicles we use for daily drivers - the FJ is our "Get Away" vehicle and we love it! We took our annual trek to Yellowstone in the...
Due to the off-set of the 17" wheels, the 285s tend to drag on the body mounts. The mounts can be trimmed or you can purchase aftermarket wheels with a different off-set. With that said, some FJ owners claim no problems with the 285s dragging. Roll the dice!
Purchased 10 months ago - have always used regular unleaded. During several road trips including a trip from Texas to Yellowstone, have averaged 19 - 20 mpg running at or slightly above the speed limit. No pings or loss of power noticed.
Towing
Sounds like you are towing a Bambi travel trailer. The 16' has a GVWR of 3500 lbs plus your gear. To keep a 4000 lb travel trailer civil, it needs a load sharing hitch with an anti-sway feature. The short wheel base should not be too much of an issue - but don't plan on running the...
Very very nice FJ - looks just like mine! Welcome to the family of FJs! What brand lift/tires did you use? I am also planning to purchase an ARB bumper and rack in the near future.
The repaint project for this FJ was posted on another FJ Forum - contained many pictures and details of the paint work. Took place at Dallas Toyota & looked first class with tear down & prep work.
