    Stripped stud on transfer case

Rusty Marlin, I had looked at the FSM about doing the disassembly in place but didn't come away with any confidence it could be done. Thank you for the excellent direction. I'm going to do this just as you wrote. I had come up with the idea of tac welding it. The thought being to get some...

    Stripped stud on transfer case

So I'm finishing up a rebuild, and just put the drivetrain back in. And now I've stripped a stud on the front half of the transfer case! (Where the front driveline bolts on). I got that terrible sinking feeling when one stud just would not get snug. I was using a torque wrench and was...

Cracks in my timing chain cover-why?

New timing cover. I chose an AISIN from Partsouq. Notice they ground off 'Toyota '. Also notice...what I thought were cracks in my old timing chain cover...are also in this new cover. They are not cracks (as many of you pointed out). Some lessons are more expensive than others.

Cracks in my timing chain cover-why?

It would probably have worked, but if it leaked🌋 that cost of a new one would feel like a bargain. So I ordered a new one from Partsouq. Other parts too. By the way, I started looking at the other AL pieces for cracks and decided to quit looking so close. Thanks for the replies

Cracks in my timing chain cover-why?

First picture is the area we are talking about, next two are what I'm concerned about...I ran a Sharpie over it and wiped it off. The ink stayed in the area I think is cracked. I was less concerned about this crack than the stuff I now realize is casting...Drive on or replace?

Cracks in my timing chain cover-why?

In the steering pump side, you guys are probably right. That does look like a lot of images on the google search. But the other side (oil pump chamber), running just above the bypass hole, do you see that hairline crack. Follow it across to the left, I'm pretty sure that's a crack. I'll...

Cracks in my timing chain cover-why?

Cleaning up the timing chain cover for reassembly of my 1FZ. Noticed some cracks on the power steering gear side, and a single crack on the opposite side, in the oil pump chamber. I am resigned to buying a new one but what the heck caused this? This is in a '96 LX450 with 280k. (Or did I...

    Name that clog

I'll pull it and take a look. I did pull the pump. The impellers looked ok.

    Name that clog

Hello all, I recently purchased a 96 LX450 with 280k miles. It was advertised as a project with a possible head gasket issue. The PO found oil in the coolant (it looked like a haze rather than full blown mix). There did not appear to be coolant in the oil. Engine ran, but I only drove it...
